Let me see if I get this straight...

1) T-Mobile is releasing a phone that in no way tries to cram spec sheet features in the name of usability (see HTC Evo and Droid X/Incredible/2)

2) T-Mobile is releasing a phone without added bloatware (see HTC Evo and Droid X/Incredible/2)

3) T-mobile isn't crippling the phone? (See HTC Aria and Samsung Galaxy S series.)

Every Android handset sold on the market right now is a pile of garbage now that the original Droid (which I did not like) and N1 (which I did) are gone. I wonder how well the processor will perform (hopefully well).

T-mobile is the weakest as far as the "major" carriers yet has amazingly brought forth a killer line up of smart phones. What gives? I would never have t mobile as their data is weak and their plans are complicated and expensive. Their claims to fame were the Sidekick (discontinued), Catherine Zeta Jones and affordable international roaming. None of these things truly apply today. I find myself wanting to like T-mobile but I just can't bring myself to do it..

The data is solid, but depends on your location. If you're in an HSPA+ city that this phone can take advantage of, you're going to fly. Even the 3G and EDGE have improved, even in the last few months from my experience as a user. The plans really aren't all that complicated or expensive anymore. $30 for Android data, and it's still unlimited. None of this tiered data business. U.limited talk text and web with a subsidized phone is $99.99/mo, unsibsidized it's $79.99. At a savings of $240 on a 2 year contract, depending on the taxes in your area, you might actually be better off signing an agreem...

T-Mobile does actually get a break w/international rates mainly because their Big Papa is Deutsche Telekom, which is a powerhouse provider for pretty much everywhere other than the US, so they get to use their own international services mainly and rarely someone else's.

According to Phonescoop, engadget, C-Net and many many other sites T-Mobile has the fastest network in the US, (including Sprints "4G") and thats only their HSPA! This phone will take advantage of HSPA+ which it TWICE as fast!

and their plans are complicated and expensive

😳 are you kidding? they have a total of seven plans, 3 for individuals and 4 for families. And they are the LEAST expensive carrier you will find in the U.S. (for most people, there are a few people who benefit from a couple of Sprint plans)

Any idea on the retail pricing?

This+30 data only plan (and configure it to be VOIP with google voice, makes it really tempting.

First real phone to tempt me from the Droid.

Or you can get a smartphone only plan (I have a dealer line for minutes) for only 39.99 if you pay full retail for the device.

Thanks for the retail clarification.. Not sure I can justify spending $500 on it.. we'll see.

Sure is good to know that stock Android still exists!
I think all carriers should have at least one stock Android smartphone

I whole-heartedly agree! T-Mo had the original myTouch, and now the G2. Sprint has the Moment if that's still around. AT&T has nothing, and Verizon had the original Droid, but none of their new stuff is vanilla Android. I don't hate most of the custom UI's, but I echo the sentiments of others when I say I wish they would just release widgets or home replacement apps instead of totally custom UI's that slow down updates.

Actually, T-Mobile 3G is reliable in NYC while others keep failing.

Well lets be honest, I don't know if this phone will be great, good or sux, I hope for great, but if any other carrier came out with a flagship phone with a 800mhz cpu and 3.2 inch screen, these same people jumping up and down in heavenly bliss would be panning the heck out of this phone as too little to late, why underclocked etc.... But since there's a ton of TMO fanboi's this is not the case.

I'm not a T mobile fan. I need a data powerhouse and in my market t mobile is still in the dark ages. I am sure they are fine in other areas. I have exclusively been a windows mobile user for about a decade now, but in mid July I got my 1st taste of Android. It's a nice fit after a small adjustment period. Being a long time winmo user, I've. Become a huge fan of HTC. ironically I took the EVO because I could not get the HD2 on Sprint.. freaking t mobile exclusive... (explitive)

What area are you in that Tmo is lagging in the dark ages? I live in an Ok area and I have HSPA+ and I hit around 3-5mbps on average with my Galaxy, which maxes out at 7.2mbps I have tested it against an EVO using WiMax and I ran just a tad over the EVO. When the G2 comes out it will have a theoretical throughput of 14.4mbps! 😲

The Processor is actually AMAZING for this. This is the next gen processor that's optimized for Mobile Data. To paraphrase Jerry Hildenbrad of AC:

"The Snapdragon Processor is like having a 1000 lane highway that you can send One car down each lane every second. The Scorpion processor only has 800 lanes, but you can send 6 cars down each lane every second.

which highway is better?"

Also a slower processor is more battery efficient. This is why my Motorola Droid phone is better at processing high end graphics and the like (clocked at 550mhz) than an HTC incredible with a snapdragon. Speed isn't everything.

I'm not on tmobile, I'm not what you would call a Tmobile fanboy and I am SO excited about this phone it's not even funny...

The only thing the Snapdragon seems to be fast at is draining batteries. Seeing the lag and poor frame rate performance on the Incredible in comparison to the iPhone 4 (which reportedly has a lower clock speed) but get 1/3rd of the battery life is pathetic. It's the Pentium 4 of the mobile world.

The G2 looks like it's hopefully taking the same approach as Apple has with the A4 of focusing on a more efficient processor that's able to scale better.

you are a virizon fan boy arnt you. t-mobile takes care of its subscribers. ya the phones may not be the best ever created but they for damn sure wont leave you out in the rain if your having issues with them.

simple math would tell you that t-mobile plans are less than any other carrier. sprint has a few that are lower ( i work for sprint escalations) so stop hatting

No, I'm on AT&T and have a decent enough corp discount that it makes little sense to go to TMO. But, if it wasn't the case, TMO and Sprint would be real viable alternatives.

Same for me; my discount with Verizon gives me the incentive to stick with 'em.

I heard that this phone was optimized for speed/graphics and this new processor was supposed to out perform the 1GHZ snapdragon. I get thier design. Have a phone that can suck up data at 14.4mbps? Better have a fast processor that can process that data!
