Sometimes I wonder why Las Vegas seems to always be first with Nexgen networks.

Las Vegas was among the first 16 cities when Cingular launched UMTS. Las Vegas was among the earliest cities to get WiMax in August of 09. And now Las Vegas is among the first cities to get LTE. And I believe Las Vegas will be among Verizon's initial launch cities for LTE. And we'll probably know for sure sometime in the next 5-6wks.

So I wonder why Las Vegas is always high on the list of cities to get nexgen wireless networks. Maybe it's cause of all the conventions here.

Las Vegas is host to millions of millions of people coming in to gamble, see shows and concerts, etc. It makes sense to make Vegas a priority for network enhancements as it gets TONS of traffic.

Tons of people+a variety of different wireless carriers, so I guess that's there reasoning behind making Vegas a top priority.

That certainly makes sense. Probably early October we'll find out if I'm right about Verizon including LV in it's launch lineup.

One reason they like to test Vegas is that it's a unique chance to test network strain. Add a couple of cell sites with thousands of fluctuating connection like you'd find in Times Square or other heavy tourist areas and see how well the network holds up.

Hey, Jay, did you notice?

The sky is BLUE. 😁

Vegas was also the 3rd or 4th city to get EVDO from Sprint and Verizon. Any place that's a hot travel destination is going to be top-of-the-list because people are more likely to use/buy mobile broadband service when they're outside their home county.

Hmm, when you say the sky is blue, are you implying that your here in Vegas?

Supposedly last night there was a 30% chance of rain.

Isn't ironic that it is never a gamble to test cell sites and service in the gambling capital of the world?

Btw, Slammer, I wish I was patient for 5 months, cause I would have gotten that oh so computer-like of a smartphone the Epic 4G had I not already gotten the Droid from Verizon back in March.

You didn't make a bad choice at all Jay. The Droid was a great choice at the time of very little competition. It has only been the last few months that Smartphone technology has begun to evolve so quickly. This trend is only going to escalate.

So in short, unless you have all sorts of money laying around or you're ust irresponsible with finances, you're never going to keep up with the leap frogging which is going to occur from here on forward.

Slimmer,
Hate to break this to you, Android devices were out before VZW had them, and had so for a year. So please don't act like they were the first to the plate.

Hi Versed.

Actually I didn't say VZW was first to the plate. I made mention that "The Droid" had very little competition. This means as branded AND marketed, it was more formidable spec wise than any of the other Android devices at the time. Now if you look at the Droid, in the last few months, it has been out shined by larger screens, processors, capabilities and options of other Android smartphones. Unfortunately, this is the natural progression of technology. There is no escaping it.

Next they'll be calling you a verizon fanboy slammer, better watch out 😛

But yeah, the epic looks like it is a really sweet phone. and Sprint's commercials don't completely suck anymore, so hopefully they'll start putting pressure on red and blue.

Speaking of android... do you have wordfued? I am tired of playing against random guys who don't know words longer than 5 letters.
