Talk about procrastination! I don't know why this wasn't just included in the 2.2 update.

Btw, Flash is a whopping 12+mb file!!! And it can't be moved to sd neither!

Yeah, but at least you can! I have the Droid Redheaded-Stepchild (aka Incredible) and we don't even HAVE 2.2 yet, and therefore no Flash, apps on SD, etc etc etc.

And before the "rooters" start, I don't want to fool with doing that, I just want VZW to put out the @!&^%$!( update already.

The incredible is NOT the redheaded step child (that is the Droid Devour)

The incredible has a VERY complex skin on top of stock android, this will slow down the updates. Remember, there is no phone launching by HTC right now that has froyo, and the only froyo sense device is the Evo.

2.2 will come. Remember, it took htc 5 months to upgrade the eris from 1.5 to 2.1, it's only been around 2 since froyo came out.

I work as a software developer and disagree about the "very complex skin" (Sense UI) being the delay. HTC has Sense working with the Evo on Sprint, and the Desire on Vodafone. So their stuff is done and works with 2.2. The UI doesn't differ from phone to phone so once it's ported to 2.2, it's good to go for any 2.2 HTC device.

I'm quite sure at this point, it's just a matter of getting VZ to push it out.

Of course all of this is just speculation, because VZ does a great job of keeping their customers completely in the dark - they didn't even take the initiative to officially dispel the August 18th rumor when it was going around.

With a little luck, one day the OS will have a HAL (hardware abstraction layer) and we can stop relying ...

While it is out for the Evo, remember the Evo has a VERY different hardware config from the Incredible.

Android itself needs to be custom built for each device since Moto, HTC, etc. all use propriatary Hardware drivers, so these need to be integrated into the os (This is why even "built from source" custom roms are still based off of an OEM build, at the very least for those drivers. Once a phone is EOL they just try and kang old drivers, but it's never perfect.) So while it works for the Evo, they need to rebuild android for the Incredible hardware and for whatever different specifications Verizon has over Sprint. And because Sense replaces core features of android, it also has to be custom built for each device (though most code shou...

The problem with getting the updates directly from Google is that if you get the update before the carrier provides it then the carrier cannot provide support for it.

At least part of the reason for the delay in getting software updates from the carrier is making sure that their tech support and data support teams have been trained on it so that they will be able to provide support.

Unless you are an expert you probably don't want to be stuck using software your carrier doesn't know how to support.

Understand, and you're right for a 'typical' user.

What I want are options. I'm a technical user, and I never call support for anything, so I'm totally cool with having no tech support available. I'd like the option to easily do that.

Well as a technical user then you know that there are ways of doing it via root, custom roms, etc. So instead of complaining root it and put it on there yourself, but you did mention in your first post you don't want to do that so why complain. Especially if you know how VZW is on releasing updates, like someone stated VZW actually does test the updates on the device before they release them to make sure everything is compatible and will work. Of course even they do make some mistakes(blackberry storm) but if you don't want to wait then fix it yourself.

Wish I could edit my previous post but can't find out how so I'm adding to it by adding this:

It's a link on how to root the incredible and add 2.2.

You will never see this on subsidized phones from Verizon. You'll have to wait for the Open Access LTE-only smartphones before this dream will come true.

I give it 2 years. Might be 18 months.

When you say LTE-only smartphones, aren't LTE smartphones going to be LTE/Rev.A for quite some time to come?

Yep so give it a few years after they're released.

lol--The entire time I spent in Orlando recently, my buddy was pining away for 2.2 for his Incredible. No luck yet.

I don't even have the new 2.2 update yet! It's just so frusterating for certain people to have the update, and only a fraction of those people have Flash. Here it is, Saturday August the 28th and I keep hearing "The update is out" and "Flash is out"...and here I am.........with neither...wtf!!!!
