When will AT&T follow suit...

I hope AT&T follows so people can get something like the iPad plans for their data devices. Their pre-paid data plans are really bad and I'd be willing to pay more for more data.

ATT offers pre-paid plans for laptop cards

What doesn't make sense is why Verizon's 5GB pre-paid plan costs more than their post-paid 5GB laptop card plan.....the primary advantage of pre-paid is supposed to be that it is cheaper

The primary point of prepay is so that people with bad credit can get devices. Obviously Verizon wants more people to sign contracts.

I doubt they really care that much, a subscriber is a subscriber, but pre-paid is generally less expensive, plus you can use it when you want to and don't need to commit from month to ...

And the main downside is lousy equipment and an inferior network, as the pre-paid network is not the same as the post-paid network.

Offering a path for people with bad credit to still get a cell phone without paying a massive deposit hardly seems to me like 'taking advantage' of them....

Deposits get refunded after a while, but all of the cash that you pay for a crappy prepaid service??? 😳

I don't know about any other provider, but I do know AT&T's network is the same for post and prepaid. The SIM cards key in differently to allow them to block when they're out of finds/time, but that's about it. The devices are generally bad unless you fork out the cash for a high end device, but you can use your reg. line and cellphone (if its newer) on the prepaid services. I don't see a benefit really at all here, so I double AT&T will be following suite.

Prepaid services aren't really where the competition is anyways.

Hmm... Not quite the same... The speed that is given to prepaid data is lower than postpaid data speed (for obvious reasons)

No, I am pretty sure that the AT&T prepaid and postpaid networks are different because if you look at the coverage maps at att.com you will see different maps for prepaid and postpaid customers

Deposits do get refunded but not everyone can afford to pay them, I have seen some MASSIVE deposits during my time working in the wireless industry, I have seen deposits as high as $1500 per line....who can afford that? Or more precisely, anyone who can afford that shouldn't have bad credit in the first place.

$80 a month for 5GB will always be too much MONEY. WHAT does Verizon Think we are, BALLERS 8.
