Sounds to me like the iphone is going to be leaving att. 👀 The rumors appear to be even more true now that poor lil att is trying to lock the iphone down and get as many subs on contract as possible before this happens. Its all good whatever carrier gets it next if its not Sprint idont care! 😁 But that ispot from Sprint is awesome and make the iphone seem a bit more enticing because there's no data cap! 😎

AT&T is not losing the iPhone, they're losing their EXCLUSITIVITY. You really think Apple is going to cease making a GSM/HSPA iPhone?

Absolutely right! Alot people misunderstand that AT&T will lose the iphone if Apple starts to make the iphone for other carriers! I don't think so! Let say Apple will make iphone 5 for Verizon, I think iphone 5 will still be coming to AT&T

No I don't think that. I guess I have to be more specific they are losing there exclusive agreement with apple and will have to compete based on network and not device now that the iphone is on more than one carrier.

The APPLE STORE is no longer selling the phone without a contract. The article states that you can still purchase the phone outright at ATT. Why is it that everything APPLE does, that people don't agree with, is ATT's fault?

Because that's the way Apple people are, NOTHING is ever Apple's fault.

Recently I was arguing with someone about how HORRIBLE iTunes for Windows is...and this person responded that 'of course iTunes for Windows sucks, Windows is a horrible OS'

So, somehow the fact that Apple makes a downright horrible program for Windows is somehow Microsoft's fault.

It would not be to Apple's advantage to offer the iPhone on more carriers, Apple's contract with AT&T basically says that Apple has the right to anal rape AT&T all day and all night...there is really no way Apple is going to be able to enter into a similar arrangement with another carrier.

The moment that the iPhone is on another carrier, Apple will lose the right to anal rape AT&T and bye bye Apple's massive profit margins.

For example....Apple's contract says that Apple gets a share of the monthly recurring charges of every iPhone user....this is the reason why the data plan is mandatory, a mandatory data plan was about increasing the monthly recurring charges and thereby increasing Apple's profits.

No way Verizon, Sprint or T-Mob...

The odds of you actually having inside information on the agreement terms between apple and at&t are pretty low, so don't take offense that I don't believe you.

Actually, he's right. Apple still has their hand pretty far inside the cookie jar. the OP is an idiot though, considering that the article is about Apple suspending sales, not AT&T. AT&T actually has NO control over what apple does and doesn't do. It's entirely the other way around.

Rumor mongers = fail.

Also toss into the fact, like ANY phone reseller, they get paid a nice fee from the carrier to sign people up for service. Apple signs a new AT&T customer they get paid from AT&T for that customer. No different then the whores in the mall kiosks, or decent resellers like BB and Radio Shack. Just phone choice is different. Signing people up is a win win for Apple, they get paid for a new customer, they get paid again for a phone subsidy. Greedy ****s.

I agree, very pictoresque image aobut the relationship between at&t and apple. I am not acquainted with the terms of conditions of the agreement but it does make a lot of sense.

T Bone somewhat but not all true, Apple after the initial iPhone2 got less from the monthly data fees, and more for the phone upfront from AT&T. But you can see the do get something, because if you sim swap to say an Android phone AT&T will want to move you off to a smartphone plan from an iPhone plan. (yes I know they charge the same.)

Also this never comes up when all the carriers do pay RIM for its Blackberry's on those monthly fees.

How does that work?

Apple is locking people down on AT&T contracts...so that means they're making a phone for verizon and tmobile?

That makes zero sense.

If that was true, they wouldn't be forcing a contract on at&t. It wouldn't matter to Apple if they did a contract or not.

They do make money as any other reseller would from signing a new customer, plus getting paid back again from AT&T for the phone subsidy, and on THEIR own phone. Its one slick deal if you ask me, at least for Apple.
