restrictions: size, weight, heat. The step up is something in the neighborhood of a PMP, netbook, or laptop.

Those are just the mass populace though, I'd carry a phone if it was big but capable, like a graphics card to let me play somekind of sweet game.

Cell phones are quickly becoming the top dog in the tech arena for innovation.

Any comments Captain Kirk?

I'd be willing to have a bulkier smartphone in order to have a much, much better speaker! I'm not happy @ all with the speaker in the Motorola Droid.

Nvidia is working on something along those lines.

It really would be wise to better the battery technology before adding any more goodies into a phone.

Actually the Iphone 4, Samsung Wave, Epic and Galaxy already have built in GPUs (graphics processing units) in them. Their just like the graphics cards on a PC. Its called the SGX from a company called Power VR who by the way built the GPUs for the Sega Dreamcast game console. 🙂

And to add to that,,,JOhn Carmack creator of the Doom series, recently ported his latest PC game "RAGE" to the Iphone 4 and IPAD and it looked really good. According to him he can make games that'll look better than any PS 2 and Xbox 1 game.

Technically the SAmsung Wave, Epic and Galaxy and Iphone 4 all have the same CPUs and GPUs so porting between these devices would be easy.

You know, I remember a time when I actually thought having a camera in a phone was stupid and I would never need or want one. Now, I can't imagine having a phone with less than a five megapixel camera.

My daughter will one day not be able to imagine a phone that doesn't have 3D holographic display and that send text messages into her brain. Its just the way technology is.

It will never be. As the tech becomes smaller, and more energy-efficient, mobile devices will become closer to laptops in features and capabilities. Which is awesome. It reminds me of sci-fi ideas from Neuromancer and Ghost in the Shell, all rolled into one. If we can keep from blowing each other up, then we might just have an interesting future.

True. People want smaller with more power. Take the netbook made by Alienware.

Though the day I have to hack my own mind, well time to call it quits then. ;)

You say that now, but when we need more processing power to keep up with the robots (btw will one day rule our limited body) you may be singing a different tune.

PLUS think of the gaming!!

i wouldn't mind having my phone, laptop, ps3, xbox 360, professional grade digital camera, e-book reader (with e-ink screen of course), PDA, guitar hero controller, RC car + radio, 3 hole punch, and car alarm controller all rolled into one device. 🙂

They already do... đŸ¤Ŗ Most Smartphones have a separate gpu already on board. But these new cpu's scare me a bit as far as battery life. They could probably put out 2ghz processors but battery life is holding them back... for now! 😎
