4.0.1 kills jailbreakme.com

Almost every single update they have has killed the previous generation of jailbreak.

There is a suspicion that some updates sole purpose is to disable jailbreak.

uh...im on 4.0.1 and the jailbreak supported it..4.0.1 didn't change much from the original 4.0 software. 4.1 will kill the jailbreak, but the hole was patched up with the beta, so it should be patched up in the final version.

everytime you update your FW on your iPhone, it full reinstalls the FW, so you would need to rejailbreak regardless.

now 4.1 will kill the jailbreakme entirely and will need to look for another hole, but they said there were tons of holes in the FW and could have used any one to use.

plug a hole...

While another one gets exploited.

Nothing new. Jailbreakers will just have to wait to upgrade until an exploit is found.

that bigger targets are what hackers go after.

Nothing about Apple products are "safer", just smaller target thus less hackers shooting at it.

Apple finally has a "big" target and just got headshot.

Every update tries to kill jailbreak / unlocks...

Every update is jail broken again.

Aug 1st was the release date for Jailbreakme.com. AFAIK it didn't exist before then.

I'm on 4.01 and I re-jailbroke my phone with that website exploit.

It's no different from other crack/fix setups - Wii, DS, XBOX, etc... people crack, company fixes, people crack again... I think the only one remotely successful atm is the PS3.

Apple might be making it harder in some respects to jailbreak/unlock *BUT* they have been unsuccessful so far in stopping it.

And undoubtedly will continue to be so.

I misread the text on jailbreakme.com (which, by the way, is awesome!)

They say on the website, to ensure that it continues to work do not upgrade past 4.0.1, but it does work with 4.0.1.

A recent report shows that, just as easily as jailbreakme.com can run unsigned code from the web browser, someone malicious can compromise your iPhone/iTouch in a destructive way.

The good news is that there is an unofficial patch on Cydia that fixes it. I forget what it's called, but search for something related to the PDF overflow exploit.
