I have 2.2 rooted on my phone and I have several tethering programs such as Barnacal and Wireless Tether. It has the hardware but I guess Verizon wants to save its network which I do not mind because I will never go back to a regular Android Build Ever Again.

Well aren't you so sophisticato with your rooting! Personally I'm not brave enough, or advanced enough to root.

I can understand that, but with all the you tube videos and forums its almost to hard to brick a Droid. The good thing is that it has a bootloader that runs through the computer called MotoDev which is free and will always allow you to flash stock builds onto the phone. If you are one of the individuals that does not want to try it then I see this as a problem. Also, when you root the phone you can over clock the processor which will make the phone faster and it is safe.Im running my droid at 1.1ghz and no problems yet.

Yeah I've heard it from Menno. I've tried reading about rooting a little bit, some complicated instructions like pressing the camera button, power button, and touching a certain place on the screen all at once.

If you serious about trying it I can send you all the links and the information you need. When you turn on the phone into bootloader its just the power button and X and a few other ones that are very easy.

The DroidMod team released a one click root, so a lot of those issues are passed.

Rom manager is awesome. No doubt about it. I love Cyanogen mod.

DroidMod was one of the original dev groups for the motorola droid. They used to be called SholesMod. Back during 2.01 they had the first "Rom Manager" like app for the Droid that would basically automate the rooting and recovery process for the phone. they kinda dropped off the radar for 2.1 because they wanted to build their own source tree like CM did. But they released a new beta of their update tool that will root 2.1 for you. and then you can flash Clockwork with Rom manager and get your favorite rom.

Hey! How bout that Menno makes an appearence!
Are you familiar with the software yourself? Is it really that simple? Does it require the use of my laptop? Or can I do it completly within my Droid?

So is Vzn lying? The Droid has the hardware ability to do wifi tethering doesn't it?

The Droid can do wifi tethering, it just needs a custom Kernal (The things you download to overclock your droid)

Here is the link to the new updater:

Once you Root, you just download ROM Manager(I highly recommend buying it, well worth the 4 dollars or so), Flash Clockwork Recovery Mod, make a Backup of your current phone (one of the options.. this will allow you to always go back to this "Clean" rooted 2.1 image if anything goes wrong.

And then you can start flashing roms like a mad man.

This still voids your warranty and all that good stuff, but as others have mentioned, if you use a little thought going into it, it's almost hard to totally bric...

You would have not been, the Verizon reps suck ass and you just have to call to do the trouble shooting and a new phone will be sent to you. I HATE going to the verizon stores in my area, all the people think they know everything when really they are bad sales agents but I do not care that I know more about there products them them, i only go if I have to. If not I rather call to do all my business with Verizon.

Yeah, and we can also ask ?'s right here on PS.

I did a warranty claim recently myself. After only 4 months of having my Droid the keyboard was crap!!! Keys were coming loose, and even coming off. The touchscreen would act all wacky while plugged into the charger. I received my warranty replacement last Tuesday. Verizon received my original Droid last Friday.

I had the screen whacked out but it was because I was using an aftermarket charger, were you using one a aftermarket one or the original one that came with the phone?
...
Jayshmay

Aug 2, 2010, 11:20 AM
Well it wasn't the original one that came with the phone, but when I bought it on ebay I made sure to type in "OEM" to make sure it works, and the one I got does indeed say Motorola on it.

It may have been fake, I had the screen issue you had you must get an original charger to make sure it does the job right. You have a expensive device no need to buy a cheap charger, but if its a budget issue then ya I can understand that.

Are you saying I should go to a Vzn store and get ripped off and pay a whopping $20?
...
Daniel Dc5

Aug 2, 2010, 11:27 AM
I am not saying that, as all the chargers I bought off of ebay for cheap did not work as well as I thought. The screen would not let me use it at all because i just dont know why, im sure it had something to do with the pins on the usb cable getting change around or something of that nature. Just sounds better to get something that is original and works, but hey if you dont want to get ripped off then i can understand that.

Menno said that DroidMod has some sort of easy software for it, are you aware or familiar with this software that Menno is speaking of?

Do you consider yourself to be advanced/geek? Or a regular more average user?
