Not to be a buzzkill, but what if Apple changes the iPod design?

What he's saying is true, MacRumors has Apple slated for a iPod touch refresh really really soon. It is also rumored to have a front facing camera!!!

Although I think it's a good idea to get this product through the door, there are millions of older iPod Touches out there already so there is a definite market.

It would be typical of Apple to change it just to spite a product like this.

(webOS repeatedly blocked from iTunes, anyone??)

WebOS is a different issue entirely, Apple maintains proprietary support for iOS devices through iTunes, The WebOS syncing was more of a gimmick by Palm to position their OS as a direct competitor to the iPhone on many levels.

I don't think HP will be making moves like that when they start pushing out updates to the software and hardware. It was just a stupid fight for Palm (not Apple) to pick.

I understand the issues are different.

But if I had iTunes, I would want to access the stuff I bought. How is that a gimmick? How is that picking a fight? The music is mine, right? Or do people just pay Apple to rent music from them??

1) iTunes purchases are now DRM free (and have been for like, 3 years.) . You can play them on any device that supports the AAC format (almost all do) or freely convert them to Mp3's.

2) Apple wasn't spiting Palm, Palm falsified their USB identification to spoof as an iPod. Which violates their USB licensing agreement, and is one helluva sleazy practice.

3) iTunes syncing is meant to be for iPods only. Palm is free to write their own synchronization software, but piggybacking off of Apple's... well, they made their own bed, they can sleep in it.
