Virgin Mobile has cheaper Blackberry plans. $35/month gets you 300 minutes with unlimited everything else on a Blackberry 8530 and $50/month gets you 1200 minutes with unlimited everything else. I think Virgin Mobile operates on the Sprint network.

Wow, I wish those sorts of plans were available with an Android smartphone!

Android phones use a TON of data compared to blackberries. Remember, all data on a blackberry is compressed. 200mb of data usage on a bb is comparable to 1.2gb of usage on an android device.

But webpages don't look any different. Yes, I've used a BB before.

web pages actually look a lot different. Maybe not mobile sites, but for non mobile sites there is a noticeable difference, and the load times make happy people want to cry.

I had a Tour before I got my Droid. It was a good phone, but web browsing was beyond painful on it. Opera made it a little better, but not by much.

For android? I use ChompSMS so it vibrates whenever I get a text message. I can set it to do it's ringtone as well, but I don't like that option personally.

for a dumbphone I have no idea.

Blackberry OS6 and their new webkit browser should fix this problem.

Virgin Mobile Canada (which is not owned by Sprint) offers a GSM version Android handset. Unfortunately for the U.S., Virgin is a CDMA carrier only, so any dreams of a Virgin droid in the states are just that.
I'm anxious to see what happens with smartphones integrating into pre-paid carrier lineups...I can see phones like the EVO and DROID X on tracfone and others in years to come.

Just be advised that Virgin Mobile customer service is an absolute nightmare. I've got my folks on Virgin, and it made me realize what I get for sticking with Verizon: excellent customer service.

Yes, Virgin does operate on Sprint.

Sprint is a love/hate relationship network.
Virgin Mobile as well.
All depends on needs.
