Just masking the problem

Apple is simply masking the problem with this patch. My wife is having serious issues with the phone's reception (just the way she holds it - and it's habit and hard to change) and is basically just using a Bluetooth headset now.

I tried to get her to buy an Android phone but she thinks the new iphone is 'pretty'. *sigh*

I'm curious to see what Apple announces tomorrow at 1:00PM EST. I hope for a recall and a new model with a protected rim. Whatever it is, I always disliked Apple and the iphone because of their walled garden approach. With a company large, I'm surprised the antenna issue made it into the production version. Shame!

I'm no fan either, but clearly, they're doing something right, because despite all those technical issues, your wife still wanted one(and thousands of others who purchased after the issue became known). I'm assuming your wife values the aesthetics more than the performance and usability. Weather you think the argument is reasonable or not, some people just value things differently.

With Apple, I'm not surprised at all, that design made it out. They have a long history of taking form over function. This is the first time in a while they probably won't let it slip.

On top of that ATT had to have known this issue. All NA carriers have some incredibly strict RF requirements, and I wouldn't be surprised if they already know about this....

I understand what your saying, and it is frustrating to have an issue where your phone drops bars of service when you put you finger in one spot. Fortunately a case does resolve the issue for those whom its effecting.

One thing I don't agree with though is your assertion that the phone lacks in performance and usability.

In my personal experience with the phone I've been able to do a lot more than I ever have with any of my previous devices. Super high quality photos have all but turned me into a photography junkie, I'm able to record and edit video and The phone is extremely fast and responsive.

I know some will not agree with me, but I don't think this antenna issue is enough of a problem to even consider returning or exchangin...

I'm curious what the field test data for the iPhone 4 is.

More like unmasking the problem because now everyone will see more accuratly the reception (or lack of reception) that they're actually getting.

We can both agree though that this obviously isn't a solution to the problem by any means and I'm sure will only by them some time.

Granted, I too like seeing the iPhone 4 naked, but if it's affecting the way she uses the phone why not buy a case?

I don't like that buying a case (or using nonconductive tape) is a requirement just to hold the phone a certain way, but I don't understand wanting to suffer through a problem just based off of principle.

(I've cased all of my iPhones and N1's out of necessity- I drop my phones pretty often)
