...that AT&T's network is starting to perceive a negligent network problem that fails to deliver satisfaction. It is beginning to wear on the nerves of their elite subscribers. AT&T has enjoyed the position of proprietary Apple stardom for far too long. This will get ugly.

Apple will blame AT&T for network issues and AT&T will blame Apple for reception issues.

While both have legitimate points, the ultimate loser in the end will be AT&T. Apple will have to offer up their product to other carriers, and AT&T will experience churn.

Perception becomes reality and the reality is that iphone users want their "Perfect" phone on a more perfect network. Regardless of what deficiencies are tagged with either brand.

Honestly no other network can give you what you want on the iPhone. Verizon and sprint runs an old CDMA network and not gsm. You want to see a slow iPhone that can't multitask through the network put millions of users on the verizon or sprint network. It will shut them down. I've done speed test on my touch pro 2 and iPhone against an evo (3G) and an incredible and att network is anywhere from 50 to 30% faster everytime. That's with millions of iPhone users on their network. Honestly I'm all for the iPhone to go to a different carrier because it will only make the att network even faster and verizon and sprint will just shut down.

I think, to be a little more clear, you cannot Talk and use any applications that use the web on Sprint and Verizon UNTIL they come out with their respective LTE networks.

I could be wrong but I believe you can talk and use data on Sprints "not really 4G but were gonna call it 4G anyway*" network where it is available.

*4G service is 100MBS, Sprint is calling their network 4G not because it is 100MBS but because it is the 4th generation of data radio's they have placed in select markets. The network isn't yet capable of producing anything near true 4G network speeds. IMO it's one of the single most deceitful marketing campaigns EVER

Yes because their 4g uses wimax and not cell phone towers. So they have two different chipset in the phone.

I thought so. Either way, the capability would be too limited right now to matter the the general public. ATT and T-Mobile still reign in the area of talk and web.

Have you tried T-Mobiles 3G network yet? It. is. sick.

CDMA is much more efficient technology than GSM. And before you start calling me names and telling me that I have no clue what I am talking about, do a little bit of reading on each technology and do it not on PhoneScoop or PhoneArena or Wikipedia. Read an academic research paper that compares the two technologies and you will see.

You guys are idiots. CDMA is a newer technology then GSM & CDMA can accommodate more traffic than GSM. & considering AT&T & now Verizon are limiting data service & charging more, you would have to be an idiot not to look in Sprint's direction.

Sprint's data is unlimited, Cheaper & 4G! & about the 4G, I believe both LTE & WiMAXX were both rated at 100 Megs but in the real world it doesn’t work that way.

Also, don't be surprised if WiMAXX don't get faster when LTE is launched next year. Sprint has no reason to crank the volume right now because were it's at its still 3x faster than 3G.

I understand with EVDO we cannot talk & use the web, but FYI, my Hero that is rooted to use the Wifi Tether, I can tether & talk simultaneously...

While 4G service may have initially been outlined as 100Mbs, ATT and TMO will follow suit into the speed misrepresentation. The "G" stands for generation and that is exactly what all this is. The Fourth Generation of Wireless Broadband Service.

Incidently, VZW will not have anywhere near 100Mbs either. In fact, the speed variation between WiMAX and LTE will be minimal. Everyone or political party has their beliefs on...

Speeds are very dependent on indigenous areas. If you live in a very dense metropolitan area, ATT does in fact become strong until daily traffic is initiated. The technical aspects will prove much different outside the relm of immediate results. GSM has alot of sizzle, but lacks steak. GSM is older than CDMA, not the other way around. CDMA networks have been proven to experience less dropped calls because of how it is designed. While allowing Voice and Data calls simultaneously through GSM would convey a sense of being newer(understandably so), it is false. Make no mistake, CDMA is technologically newer and more advanced than GSM. CDMA was designed by Qualcomm for the military to take the place of GSM because of its reliability. It is also ...

Other than Native coverage, Sprint would in all honesty, be an ultimate fit for the iphone. Sprint has more bandwidth than any other carrier to successfully handle the demands of Data transfer.

1) GSM is the old network
2) We talk and surf the web on the EVO all of the time (voice on CDMA and data on WIMAX)
3) The air interface of AT&T and T-Mobile's 3G product is a form of CDMA

The reason that iPhone traffic would shut down Verizon and T-Mobile is a bandwidth issue, they don't have as much as AT&T. If you include Clear's bandwidth with Sprint's then they have way more than anyone else.
Apple could develop an iPhone for Veizon with a 1x radio for voice and text and a EVDO radio for data that work simultaneously.

The real problem AT&T faces is that the iPhone uses more bandwidth for everything and so it robs network resources form other users.

I was replying to another post (which was saying that the iPhone couldn't work on another network [like Sprint 'S', Verizon 'VZN']) and I find that hard to believe, considering Apple being the company that it is.
As far as iPhone goes... honestly, it is probably the most popular phone WORLDWIDE, the UI is the best there is, runs smoothly, very organic, human-like. You may have gotten a defective one.

If you believe that then you have some serious att issues. Both Sprint and Verizon have been proven to have more reliable coverage than att and more 3g coverage period. Just because your small real world test shows favorable results for att doesnt mean they will be consistant with the entire US. Please do some research.

Don't confuse release date with date of development.

Jimi Hendrix released a 'new' album in 2010 (Valleys of Neptune) but many of the songs on it were actually recorded before his previous albums.

CDMA was deployed commercially after GSM but it is actually an older technology that was developed before GSM.

I feel I should clarify my previous statement: CDMA was originally developed during World War II by the British as a way to foil German efforts at jamming their transmission.

It wasn't made commercially available until 1995, largely due to European regulations which mandated TDMA/GSM based technologies be employed in order to ensure compatibility across the continent.

GSM originated with TDMA during the 1960's and 1970's.

CDMA is actually an older form of technology.

Please do not confuse older TDMA/CDMA technology with the newer CDMA2000. Qualcomm develoepd the newer CDMA2000 in 1990. While it is derived of an older CDMA technology, CDMA2000 is worlds apart from the earlier version. This would make the CDMA2000 we use for Cellphones far newer than the older GSM. If you study the differences between GSM and CDMA2000, you will find that CDMA is far better for data transfer. However, the amount Bandwidth allocated for data transfer is very important. With this said, it is interesting to point out that Sprint holds the record for spectrum and bandwidth allocated for such Data transmissions. No surprise why when on their native network, their data transfer is the most reliable.

There is a difference betwe...

CdmaOne/CDMA2000, the technology that every CDMA service uses, is based off of a standard developed by QUALCOMM, not some technology from WW2.

cdmaOne/CDMA2000 is distinct from previous versions and is not just the "same tech."

For starters, it's based on digital tech, not analog signal.

So they WOULD be able to give you talk and data at the same time. Further more, there is CDMA tech (EVDO RevB, EVDV) that allows data and voice at the same time. Verizon and Sprint didn't choose to develop it because it's significantly more expensive, and their customers want COVERAGE, not some convenience that most customer's didn't realize they HAD until att/apple started advertising it (YEARS after the technology went online)

Also, because of how CDMA handles data, it would take far more cellphones to shut down a tower than it takes to shut down a GSM tower.

And ATT/Tmobile are fast, no denying that. but according to ATT'S own data plans, it doesn't expect it's users to USE that network (68% use less than 200mb a month) So reall...

...Got a great point! I must add that I know a lot of iPhone users (very pleased with their device), however MOST(not all) of them use it ONLY to make and receive calls (which agrees to AT&T statitics), maybe send texts, don't even have music/videos.

Introduction of a Verizon iPhone anytime soon would signal the beginning of the end for AT&T, and AT&T knows it.

EVERY iPhone owner I've spoken to in the NYC area has sworn they'll jump ship the day the iPhone comes out on Verizon. They're that disgusted with AT&T's service.

The longer it takes for the iPhone to be available from other carriers, the more time Android has to overtake the iPhone OS. And it's catching up very fast. The HTC Incredible from Verizon is already being compared to the iPhone in all the reviews. Even AT&T is now jumping on the Android bandwagon.

Watch out Apple!
