Alright already, I'm a fanboy, an iSheep, I drink the Steve Jobs coolaid, I am a Crapple fan blah blah blah....

Now that we've gotten that out of the way...

How awesome is it that Apple has made FaceTime with an open source code??????????

Let the Video Chat Application wars begin!

Hopefully we can all recommend the best apps to each other and work toward the goal of mass-productivity rather than battle over who's OS is the best.

There is nothing open about the iphone. Android and Apple can not be friends, just like McGruff took a bite out of crime, Android will take another bite out of Apple!!

There is nothing open about the iphone

Except for the source code for FaceTime, Webkit etc...

Android and Apple can not be friends

Except in the many instances where they are, in fact, friends, gmail, video calling, calendar syncing, any apps that work cross-platform etc....

just like McGruff took a bite out of crime, Android will take another bite out of Apple!!

Was this supposed to be a clever rip? I'm going to call it a fail.

Anyone want to call me a pretentious jerk with a "better than you" attitude please note the FACT that I did not attack ANYONE with my OP and I didn't bash Android (never really have btw)

Im not saying anything about you, just trolling around. Your a fan boy and I love Android OS. We just have to see how the 60 plus phones they will have in the market by the end of the year do compared to just one lil ol iphone.

fair enough, I am a fanboy. 😁

In my opinion this open-source code for Facetime is going to be a HUGE benefit for Apple and Android fans alike. With newer and better applications being developed for both platforms I can imagine some awesome stuff is coming in our direction.

But why didn't they integrate their facetime tech with other video mediums?

again, they released a new code, and expect everyone else to adopt it. Facetime is nice, but other than the fact that it's built into the OS, there's nothing that shows it to be better at video than what's out there (coding, data usage, etc)

I'm not saying the code isn't worth looking into. But why not release API's that will allow apps to hook into the facetime app on the iphone and use that interface while chatting with Skype/Google customers? I'm pretty sure it could be done without TOO much of an issue or cost, and it would instantly make facetime more useful on the order of a few thousand times.
