Too glitchy to take off

Although I'm glad to see video calling over 3G, the truth of the matter is Fring is utter crap. Android users may have standards low enough for Fring, but it's less hassle to find a WiFi hotspot and Facetime the call than it is to try and use that piece of crap.

yea i love android but i gotta say facetime has the video-chat quality , however i say that's a small price to pay for being on tmobile 3G with my g1 on fring and im web caming live. it's pretty ill to be doing that while not confined to indoors and not to mention it's cross-platform compatible.

Well, it isn't really fair to compare WiFi video calling vs 3G video calling ... what is the quality of Fring over WiFi vs Facetime over the same WiFi? That's the real comparison.

It's not video quality per se, it's that the application itself is extremely buggy and most of the time doesn't even work.

This is your chance. You have a few months to really develop some hardcore stuff for this genre of application that could easily make you a millionaire over-night.

Gather some like-minded people, do your thing.

From what I've read, you have the ability (and the credit score to get yourself a business loan) to make a difference, so stop whining and start working!

Fring looks a little crappy as a app but it works better then I expected. A lot of other video apps will be out soon, its only a matter of time before we have smell-o-vision.

Work out an efficient video chatting and buffering protocol, and set up a service.

-OR-

Fring can get its servers to work properly, update their application for proper iOS4 support, and develop a better video buffering setup.

-OR-

Apple or Skype will just enable vChat over 3G.

Fring connects fine android to android and works very well. So all they need to do is update the apple side of it.

And it's not "easier to just find wifi for facetime" because atm, the only thing supporting facetime is the iphone4.

Fring, and similar programs integrate with:
-iPhone4
-Android
-PC's
-Macs
-etc.

Now, what's easier? Convincing everyone you know to buy an iphone4 (including your grandmother who lives in BFE) or using a program (even with the bugs) that enables you to talk to everyone, and will get better with time?

Maybe with your amazing credit score you can afford to buy an iphone (and pay for the service) for everyone you know. The rest of us mere mortals are really happy with the choices offered.

It's entirely possible blue refuses to associate with people who don't use an iPhone. If his response to this news is taken in that light, ie he has no need to video call someone not on an iPhone, then they almost make sense.

Unfortunately no. I've got it on my N1. I still have the same issues of it failing to connect, refusing to recognize screen names and process registration. Additionally, the UI is utter utter utter crap.
