Is it just me....

....Or does this basically sound like Apple saying "it's not really our fault it's AT&T's fault" by saying thing like "People in a poor coverage area"

I mean i see them admiting to "bad math" but that's it. Everything else is fine and when they fix the issue with this update you going to be able to see more acuretly how bad your coverage is.

I know someone is going to call me a troll but this to me looks like the blame game.

Personally I think both are to blame, more so Apple though. I had ATT service before getting a Droid with Vzn, and my service with ATT was fine.

Actually Verizon drops from 3G to 1x more than AT&T dropped from 3G to EDGE. I'm no fanboy, I'm an honest consumer.

NO i agree that they're both to blame. I just, to me atleast, that Apple is trying to put a lot of the drop in service on this Iphone onto AT&T.

As far as I'm aware AT&T provides the service, thus any signal degradation due to coverage area really is the fault of the service provider

And from what I hear, Apple uses the same chip set for it's radios as hundreds of other phones on the market.

If it is true that the iPhone is unaffected by this issue in medium to high coverage areas then I would say yeah, the blame lies with AT&T for it's coverage and not with Apple.

I bought a droid for my girlfriend, and I have an iPhone, I use both of them side-by-side in our travels (and we travel a LOT) and I'd say the idea that AT&T has worse coverage than Verizon is little more than a marketing campaign ran by none other than Verizon.

Iagree w/u. Verizon is all about marketing.

Reality is 3G for me was better with ATT. Verizon drops to 1x quite a bit.

And yet I have never dropped down to 1x with my VZW aircard, in PA or MA or NJ or anywhere else I've been - another reason to just stick with that instead of getting a smartphone!

Come out West and try to say the same thing. You will drop to 1X in a metro area.

Verizons 3g coverages is pretty funny as well. They dont really tell you that 1xrtt is also a 3gt type technology and large parts of thar red map is 1xrtt which is why the judge in the att law suit when verizon had those xmas commercials that verizon commercials albeith sneaky were accurate.

ooh yeah and maybe it's Verizon taking out the AT&T towers in NYC so everyone there has lousy service! And I bet Verizon moved the antenna to a stupid place, and messed up the math in the new iPhone too!!

(my voice is dripping with sarcasm, in case you can't hear it...) 😉

Fair enough, AT&T has some trouble spots, I'll give you that. Verizon has quite a few of them as well. It's a fact of life that cell coverage is not perfect for any company.

I just remember the "thats a dead zone" campaign ran by Verizon touting their coverage as 100% and laughing to myself when my frustrated friends on Verizon couldn't even send a text message at my house.

The situation is reversed for some people, AT&T not working where Verizon does but in MOST places they are on equal footing. And in those places AT&T has far superior speed and versatility than Verizon with it's 3G network.

NYC coverage through AT&T is demonstratively better than it was just six months ago, and arguably better than Verizon at the moment.

Heknows. Nothing.

I've had every major provider except T-Mobile because my brother warned me away before I looked to them, and I've been with AT&T twice now. I'm no fanboy but I've got to say I like it better than Sprint or Verizon.

I broke down in the middle of a pass in the mountains in CA and had reception and the only place I've ever *not* had reception, was only data services (calls still worked) and it was in the middle of a movie theater and why would you need signal there?

As far as the iphone and Apple's press statement goes...if Apple sat there and figured in the power needed to maintain a signal they thought to be considerably higher than it was, is there any possibility that there are hardware changes that need to be mad...

So what your saying is this "minor" Antenna issue (since thats how you view it) has nothing to do with the lose of service ? It's all AT&T's fault ?

also i have verizon and i've been east to west north and south and yes there are dead spots. most of the time it's in areas that have no civilzation. My point is that is i've heard far more AT&T customers say that AT&T has bad coverage then i Have other people say that AT&T has bad coverage. Some marketing yes but mostly the truth.

Once again coverage is market specific. I can show you places where the best choice is T-Mobile.
There are 2 billion reasons (advertising budget) why most people believe Verizon has better coverage.
Here in the Northwest Verizon's coverage is adequate and they thank God every day for Sprint and US Cellular so they can include their coverage in their "red zone" AT&T has better rural coverage in most of the region.

You my friend are a troll who is vastly uninformed as well as ignorant of English grammar and spelling. Your posts are almost unintelligible.

again, it's hard for me to believe that the main reason people think verizon has good service is because of advertising. I've been through the north west Billings, Mt...90 west Seattle, WA...5 to..Coo's Bay, OR.....down 5 to San fran, and i believe what i see and where ever there was civilization i had service, now going through the moutains i lost service at times yes. now if AT&T has better service going though the moutains then good for them becasue all i saw was thouse wind generators for miles. I'll just have to take your work it's becuase there using someone elses towers.

Actually, AT&T has almost no trade agreements anymore. T-Mob. cut their contract for some reason at the beginning of the year. Not a lot of options for compatible services anymore. And the thing about the mountains and uninhabited areas...the people working on those towers need communication means too. It's not hard to turn a turbine into a cell tower. Lol.

dude youre just dumb so stop being apples boy toy. It's both apple and att's fault and its obvious that this boost in appearance of signal strength was a sham all along to make the iphone look great on att's service. Greed+Greed=Even More Greedyness... It will be funny when someone decides to slap the lawsuit on both of them for falsely advertising their products.

The Idaho Panhandle is one of the areas where Verizon is a better choice. I-5 is well covered by everyone until you get to Siskiyou pass and then it is only Verizon and AT&T.
Coos Bay (Oregon 5) is a weak spot for AT&T. The rest of the Northwest is definitely covered better by AT&T except where Verizon is allowed to roam on US Cellular who has the best coverage in their markets except WA 4.
