So, AT&T will now start doing the same stuff as VZW? So, since they lost exclusivity to the iPhone, they now have to become the red devil?

Not really. I remember ATT recently announced that they pretty much are going to let everything onto their network.

I think the let's lock everything down strategy worked when phones were far lower performance, but now it's getting much harder.

Plus, ATT is a network service company and providing service is where their expertise is.

Only if the phone is adopted by a development community.

The eris isn't part of it, the incredible is just STARTING. Typically development phones are the ones that have the least amount of overlay, or the most powerful phones on that network.
