Verizon Wireless and Motorola Launch Droid X
Verizon's answer to the iPhone 4...
Let's be honest, this thing is no Nexus One or Droid Incredible (or even HTC Evo)... let alone iPhone 4. The original Droid hardware was pretty shoddy, this looks bad too. What happened to Motorola's awesome ID department?
Won't ship with Froyo , perhaps the brightest news of the Android world.... so they're launching a new phone with obsolete software. Nice going guys. I've had Froyo on my N1 for 2 months now.
Flash? Flash still isn't ready? Oh goodie. Speaking of Flash, did anyone catch that Palm said Adobe (despite wanting Flash everywhere) is leaving them out in the cold? So...

Google has to finish it and send it to Motorola who has to tweak it to their hardware and send it to Verizon, who has to tweak it and then push it back to the others to make sure nothing got broke.
As for flash, it is ready. I have flash on my 2.2 Rooted Droid, it's just waiting for 2.2 to hit the handsets. Considering this isn't shipping until mid-July, it won't be that long of a wait until 2.2 hits.
I'm with you on the bloatware, but once the phone gets rooted it will be really easy to clean that stuff up.
As far as cosmetics, I'm not a fan of the non-keyboard phones as it is, but I do like the huge screen. To each his own in that dep...

Froyo is NOT OUT ON ANY DEVICE YET OFFICIALLY. and the Source code (what motorola needs to develop their os) was just released today. Pretty sure that it takes more than 15days to code a new OS/
Flash ships with Froyo. That's the reason they don't have it yet. Why doesn't it have flash? See above.
There are a lot of people who like vcast actually. It's great for keeping kids entertained (Disney is one of the more than 40 options you can choose to watch) not to mention live sporting events (such as the world cup). And it's not delaying froyo because, see above, froyo was JUST launched.
And more than likely this phone was in the works before anything about...

And Froyo was made available to developers and hardware partners awhile back. In other words, a 2 month delay from today is pathetic. They're a hardware partner and Google is "open" (sarcasm alert) - you don't seriously mean to tell me Motorola developed this in the dark do you?
And I can tell you this much- nobody at the launch event even referenced the Evo's existence, but they knew whose shadow they were in.
So far the Droid X doesn't look like a good phone. Doesn't mean people won't buy it- People bought the original Droid and that phone is a giant hunk of crap.
Froyo *just* went gold, thats why they released it as source TODAY, or are you not familiar with the open source development model?

Nobody uses VCast unless you're a VZW salesman or you subscribed to it accidentally. I repeat: nobody.
Obviously someone never took any kind of logic/speech/debate class because using absolute terms like "nobody uses item X" (unless you have empirical evidence that it, in fact, nobody uses it) only weakens your argument.
1) VCast is a desirable service consumers ask for and use on a regular basis.
2) Show me any evidence that VCast's user base even registers on the map of mobile content distribution audiences.
You're the one making wild claims that absolutely no one, with the exception of VZW salesmen, uses VCast.
Verizon is offering the service, they continue to do so (and pay royalties to companies to host their content) They wouldn't do this is someone wasn't paying for it.
the burden of proof is on YOU to provide data that shows that no one uses it.
I'll go out on a limb here and state nobody's buying a Kin either.
But even if you WERE always right when you spoke on this forum, you're posts are about palm, android, and apple, NOT about software features offered by a carrier that is not your primary carrier, so any past correct assumptions have NO weight on the current discussion
And my aunt uses vcast to keep her kids entertained with Disney shows on the road. That is another customer (non-verizon employee) who uses vcast. so blue, since you said NO ONE uses vcast, that makes you WRONG.
Kind of like blowing up a field to get an ant hill.
all bluster, no real purpose
So now you're wrong. All of your statements are now invalid. Thank you (see, I can use hyperbole and absolute statements not backed up with facts too).
You've been talking about how delayed 2.2 is since it was announced. By that logic, apple's release is also PATHETIC.
Google hasn't released 2.2 on their Nexus One (aka their dev phone) officially yet, why do you expect handset makers who have to follow carrier approval in ADDITION to their own to be faster than google, who coded the software and can release it at will?
Motorola most likely had an early build of the OS that they've been working with, but the final (aka RC) build just came out today, and that is the build their device has to match.
They didn't mention the Evo because they were at a VERIZON (not sprint) con...

Maybe take a break from Android bashing for a day or two and catch up on this.
Google JUST released the source code to Froyo TODAY to devs and manufactures, and here is their press release to prove it. PhoneScoop also posted this is the story above this one.

If it's like the Droid, it should be pretty simple. As long as Cyanogen/Koush get ahold of a model, they should make a version of Rom Manager for it, and then custom roms are cake
