People are always saying that at&t has nothing other than the iphone. No matter how many new smartphones at&t announces coming out this summer, people are always fixated on "iphone, what else you got?" From what I see, they have more than any other carrier. Verizon may have the droids but they have nothing else. We have the only iphone, the best blackberrys, and now some really really nice Androids right around the corner. hate all you want, but we all know your just jealous 😛

right I'm with u on this one

Think of sometime ago, att has a great stable of phones, I will admit, last year or so, outside of the iPhone it has been lacking. But I also remember for years that carriers like Sprint and VZW where carrying and for the most part, crap as well. Outside of blackberrys. Well, those guys caught up and I give them credit, now its time for ATT to get some love.

What BB's does ATT have that Vzn doesn't?
...
nvm take that back 🤣

Yeah, verizon offers the:
Bold, curve, pearl (lol), and storm (LOLOLOL)
...
AT&T has the only iPhone but has a bunch of hobbled Androids that can't compare with VZW.
VZW doesn't have an iPhone, but its Android lineup blows AT&T out of the water.
Otherwise, smartphone lineups are pretty much the same. Thats why everyone fixates on the iPhone vs Android debate.
...
ATTs laughable Backflip + lack of Android options is the reason I left the carrier after having been with them for 8yrs.
...
As far as Blackberries, at&t had the bold way before Verizon got it. The only reason they called the 9650 a Bold is because the Tour sucked. The Storm sucks. The Backflip is a joke. I will agree with that. The HTC Aria and the new samsung one are both incredible Android phones. I dont know anything about it yet, but LG also has an Android for at&t sometime in July/August.
...
The Aria and Galaxy do look like decent phones, but AT&T is coming late to the Android game.
By the time they roll those out at the end of the summer, VZW will already have at least 5 and probably 6 mid to high quality Androids (completely ignoring the Devour, because that phone was just ... yeah.)
Combined with the data plan changes, which are laughable because I'm not even a poweruser and I burn up 3-4 gigs a month, and the fact that they hobble their Androids (no non-market apps, wtf?).
...
I'm sorry but if you're burning up 3-4 gigs a month you're a power user.
I'm a pretty heavy user and I cut it just under 2 gigs a month.

Whenever I am out there 'in the real world' and not on a tech blog I constantly hear the complaint that 'AT&T has nothing but smartphones, there are no options for people who just want a regular phone we are all being forced into smartphones, they are trying to screw us over by forcing into expensive mandatory data plans'.....only on tech blogs do I ever see the opposite complaint that AT&T doesn't have enough smartphones.
Indeed, ATT has the broadest selection of smartphones of any wireless carrier and is the only carrier which carries phones running EVERY major smartphone OS: iPhone, Blackberry, Android, WebOS, Windows Mobile and Symbian
And somehow there are not enough options....o...kay....
...
funny thing is too they've got a pretty wide selection of basic and text messaging phones....just because a sales rep is trying to convince you that smartphones are the way to go, doesn't mean that they're out of basic phones if that's the way you wanna go.
I digress though, it's honestly an issue of the grass is greener.....
...
That is true but the messaging phones require messaging and data plans too....
Although why anyone would complain about a messaging plan requirement on a phone which is designed primarily for messaging I honestly have no idea....but then again I don't understand why people complain about a data plan requirement on phones designed for using data....

It's not that they don't have other phones to offer, it's that they seemingly go out of their way to make sure those phones fail.
Let's just look at android:
-The locked down the backflip so much it couldn't even use google voice search.
-on ALL android phones, they make it so you can't sideload apps.
-There is a good chance that the front facing camera is missing on this device (it's not in the press release and that is a HUGE feature)
-How much you want to bet they won't spend more on advertising these devices (or the platform) more than they would basic quick messaging phones?
They announced the Captivate within days of the aria, and they announced BOTH when media and their stores were in iphone mania, killing the sales of both....
