No matter, Apple/AT&T seem to be providing yearly upgrades on iPhones to primary account holders.

Still, every year you have to drop 200/300 to keep up with the rest of the Iphone world.....and yearly upgrades through phone carries on the primary line cost you to do. it's not free like the two year one. not to mention only the Primary line can do it.

So true Kaztro, but you sell off the older one for a good percentage of the new one, or just suck it up, like many of us do here. Oddly, I'm guilty and I think its up surd.

i just think a company like Apple who is supposed to be so ahead of the curve that they would make a product that can atleast last a year and a half/ two years.....but historical they string out tech they've had patents for. I just feel if your the benchmark give me your best upfront. thats all i ask.

I think the iphone is not for you then. Maybe you ARE too smart to be an iphone owner (as your original post seems to imply). Or maybe it is a case that if one has to ask about how much the iphone costs...one cannot afford it.

ha your funny, it's not a matter of being smarter or being not being able to afford it. I'm a tech fan and if i am to believe that if apple is the trend setter that they and all the fan boys claim, why does apple not put it's best foot forward to start ? Think about this Multitasking is something that has been around for how long ? Why is this new phone just getting it ? in compairison android phones didn't come with multitouch, the droid got it with in 6 months of being released. when intel or amd introduce a new processer line they always drop the most powerful one they can build at that time, then continue to work on it. Apple is one of the only tech companies that hold back becasue they know no matter why they drop millions will run out ...

That is your problem. You are a tech fan...not a businessman. If you owned significant stock in Apple you would see the benefit in selling iphones to the general public year after year with very little innovation and maximizing profits. It doesn't make sense to you...I get that. But it makes dollars for them...do YOU get that?

Doesnt make good business sense... Apple would be the only company who makes a huge impact on the market with every release every year... Other manufacturers only accomplish this every so often.. Why load up the first time out the gates when you can double or even triple profits by creating a string of devices... And no Im not a "fanboy" Im a blackberry user..

They wouldn't innovate every year even if they could. That's not their MO.

Look at their computing line, where they WANT to gain more marketshare. They still only really innovate every couple of years, if that.

Apple fans are well trained to buy the latest and greatest, no matter what that change is. I used to be a huge apple fan, and still am really with their computers.

Doesn't matter if to a tech geek they dont seem innovative... Thats not who they market toward... It's every one else.. That's why they are updating softwares to not allow the devices to be jailbroken or manipulated.. They dont care what us "techies" want/believe.. To the average Joe they are the most innovative in the market and thats what drives their mobile profit margin.

But thats the point, they're not ! Fan boys eat this crap up and there products are not the latest and greatest. I've said it before, i like Apple, i like the Ipod. I build computers so i don't really like Apples computers, but i do agree that for a simple computer they work fine. I would LOVE for Apple to do something that really WOW's the Tech nerd community, but they won't. it's sad considering who they were to the computing industry. it's like the IPad, people are saying how it's inovating the tablet pc market, how ? it's just a really big Ipod. So apple can make the Ipod bigger way to inovate.

The average consumer doesn't care about Innovation. They just want a cool toy, and apple's marketing paints the iphone as the coolest toy on the block.

if 68% of iphone users (as att says) are using less than 200MB a month, they arn't really using their phone.

I don't believe that either, i've been in sales for years and with the economy being the way it was/is and people looking to save money the best why possible. I've seen the average consumer beening more educated to what is the latest and greatest, and what is the most realiable. I agree that that is the way Apple markets it but i think claims with out the facts will/are biteing apple in the ass.

The economy isn't a valid excuse.

Most customers could care less about how much their toys cost them. They only bring up the economy because they're hoping that the sales rep will give them a better deal.

Sure, they may eatout less, or get less accessories, but the average consumer won't stop buying things. When i sold phones, I had people complain about cellphone prices, and then in the same breath talk about the new TV/handbag, etc they just bought.

American consumers, even during the recession, spent more than they took in.
...

i'm not saying they are going to spend less they are going to spend smarter and if you look at consumer studies over the past few year they claim that consumers are shopping smarter, looking for the best deal, reading more reviews, looking at specs(even if they don't really understand them)

How not???? Just because they dont appease to your standards? lol Look at at&t's growth since the iphone launch... Look at the amount of people who have iphones on at&ts network...(not to mention the jailbroken models used on other carriers) They're wooing people.. Maybe not you.. but enough to keep The Big Apple and At&t fed...

Dude really, because of droves of Apples fan boys went and got it thats your proof that it's setting standards ? Apple fan boys didn't have a phone now they have a phone thats why it saved AT&T. My whole point in everything i've said so far is that if the Iphone is the "Jesus" phone that everyone is claiming it is then show me....it's should be untouchable and it's not, this new one is at the top for a few months until Android Creates a better one, and Apple won't do anything but add 4g in a year watch. with in the year this will be the out of the top 5 latest tech phones. To me Apple can crush if they wanted to and they don't because they are happy stringing that fan boys along.

Blah blah blah.. You're just spouting babble at this point man. This is a business.. NUMBERS ARE ALL THAT MATTER! Also with the way this market is now NO PHONE will be up to date after a year's time.. Not even an android.. Everything is advancing more rapidly than it ever has before and much of that is in part to the iphone launch... Say/think what you want the Iphone changed this Industry. Point blank, and in only 3 years its user base is almost that of RIM who has been #1 since as long as I can remember... I never said it was a "Jesus" phone or any other sacrelige bs you want to say. In a game where BOTTOM LINE NUMBERS ARE ALL THAT MATTER I phone=WIN... The only reason DROID and other OS's are even making a name for themselves now is becau...

wow i seemed to touch a nerve, i apoligize to the fan boy. if you belive that number equal win keep in mind Apple was the name in PC's in the 80's and early 90's and they rested on there merits and lost....they now have less then 10 percent of the PC market share in the US, And Apple invented the PC. Again my point is that if Apple wants to win they need to play to win, it's like watching a football game where Apple is playing not to lose, and that eventully will catch up to them. If Apple went to other carrier i don't think it will have the impace people think it will.

I figured i struck a nerve because you typed in caps like GRRRRRRRRRRRRR 👿 🤣

Ha i don't want them to lose, I just want them to show me they are who they claim to be. I'm tired of Fan boys saying it's the greatest thing since fire and it's not. is it a cool phone yes it is. is it the coolest phone out, i don't think so.

I'll reiterate my point, I like apple, I just feel that if they claim to be the benchmark Prove it, don't string along your base. Crush the market because you can and keep building off of that.

like intel, before the Core 2 duo chips they by all tech accounts behind AMD, when they released the Core 2 duo chips they threw the house that AMD and AMD has been unable to catch up since.

Thats what i've bee...

Verizon does this already without requiring a specific device, just price plan threshold.

But from what I read, the only people who get the early upgrades are people who were eligible sometime THIS year (IE, people who used upgrade for the iphone 3g, not the 3gs)

No, anyone with a future eligibility date of 2010 is advanced to be eligible now. And this is at the full discounted price, not the Early iPhone Upgrade price.

Right, and if you could upgrade in 2010, it would be for the iphone 3g, not the 3gs (unless you signed a one year contract). the 3gs wouldn't be available until 2011.

I guess, if you look at it in a purely captilist stand point your right. The problem is that it's not only about playing to your base but getting thouse who are on the fence, and if apple can show people how they really are the best then more people who be like WOW ! i don't think this phone does it, i don't think apple does it with there products when everyone know it will be replaced with the New Apple Hotness in less then a year.

Well...looking at it from a purely capitalistic standpoint is the only way I ever look at things. I am told that WebOS and the Palm Pre are quite innovative. However, it does not make money. In my mind...failure. These people will be waiting outside AT&T BEGGING to hand their wallets over for this year's iphone as you say knowing full well it will be replaced in a year by a slightly more advanced version. Win!
