It's all to do with money. The carriers don't want the handsets updated forever. They want people to upgrade their hardware and therefore keep them in contract. And I'm sure some phones aren't able to run later versions of Android.

FCK the carriers!!! That's what I have to say about that! Motorola made my phone, and Google made the software, FCK the carriers!!!

Hey, you probably update every 2 yrs anyway, right? It's really no biggie for me. If they don't want to update my phone's OS in perpetuity, I'll be glad to move onto a new phone.
Just hope you're able to migrate all your data.

while it is ideal to be able to update your phone everytime, its not the reality, so to reply to your next posts, no, in reality u cant have a phone or any gadget updated to d newest one everytime(even the almighty iphone (series) would be leaving out their 2G brother behind). so please dont hate the companies too much.. 🙂
although .. this is much to do with samsung also, they are known to release phones and never update them at all, even flagship GSM phones(im bitter i know) 👿
