So Motorola is turning into a Verizon OEM

So in other words, Motorola has zip for brand equity. HTC can make the next "Droid" and Motorola has nothing to go on.

Their entire success is based on Verizon pushing the crap out of their phones.

Verizon took a risk with the Droid in my opinion. Motorola produced a lot of crap before this phone came out. Glad they found a company to embrace them...

Yes, but the Motorola Droid is a SOLID phone....Verizon banks on the short memory of Americans....enough said

Actually I think the Droid is a pretty crappy phone by iPhone/Pre standards. The hardware is shoddy, it certainly isn't all that reliable, and overall it's not what I'd call confidence inspiring. Let's put it this way- I wouldn't use it to replace my alarm clock.

But by Android phone standards it's better than average, and by Verizon phone (Blackberry Storm, LG Voyager, LG Dare, etc.) standards it's really good.

it's funny you say that becasue every third party article i've seen has said over all the droid is better then the Iphone.

Nobody in their right mind thinks the Droid is better than the iPhone unless it's a specific feature (e.g. "I *MUST* have a physical keyboard iPhone SUX")

Hardware wise it's one of the worse Android sliders. Software wise, Android has a long way to go. Even with FroYo on my Nexus One i'd rank it behind WebOS (which I'd rank #1 if the media player was better thought out.)

i'm not going to argue with a fan boy, like i said from what i've seen most third parties say the droid is better or at the very least equal to the iphone. Personal i like the Iphone, i think it's a good phone, but it's more the name then anything.

Actually I'd say I am. And I speak from firsthand experience, not justifying the competition of my purchases.

They sure did. I still find it hard to believe that Motorola made a decent device.

In all fairness, isn't AT&T supposed to have some new Android devices out towards the end of this year once the two big phone trade conferences are done with?

Still, three Android devices vs Verizon's base OS appearing to be Android is a bit much. Does Verizon even have any WinMob devices anymore? (Too lazy to go look.)

I think it is well worth the risk. Look at all of the Android phones on the market today, none of them have failed and although there is limitations by OS version you never hear that they are having issues. Anything with Android will work well and produce for the company that it is on. If more people rooted there phones I am sure they will love it more just as the Iphone gets jail broken to do what the droid can do for customization. If Verizon keeps pushing out higher end Droids then it will make the company a lot more money, we just have to see which way the ball will roll on this one.

Actually, the only Android phones that seem to be seeing anything resembling noteworthy sales are the Droid and Droid Eris, both of which are tied to heavy VZW marketing campaigns.

It may be worth noting that other phones tied heavily to VZW marketing campaigns don't see long term success.

What exactly are you compairing it to? The iPhone? The Moto V3M? Some other high volume selling phone?

I an confused to what your point is since VZW has always and will always promote a device the Motorola Droid or HTC Eris..

No, I'm saying phones such as the Blackberry Storm, Motorola Q, etc. didn't see repeated success.

First, do you have any supporting facts for that statement? The Storm 2 sold pretty well.

Second, do you have any idea what the average shelf life of a mobile phone is these days? The Eris is already end of life.. But with the Incredible there is not much of a reason to buy an Eris except for price.

Verizon pushed the DROID hard and are beggining to push the Incredible the same way. I'm not sure what you're talking about with the Eris. The only commercial I ever saw for the Eris was put out by HTC, similar to the mytouch commercials. Both the Droid and the Eris have huge following however, and if Samsung would get off their asses and produce enough displays, the Incredible will soon follow.
