Hmm. I don't have a 3G card because of metered pricing.

Guess why I won't be buying a Verizon 4G card... EVER.

It's not meant for a whole home replacement. It's meant to supplement your home internet.

Unlimited plans are bad for the average consumer, and they're bad for businesses. The only people they are good for are the ones who are atypical users (people who use 10x the amount of data of a typical user)

If carriers really want to expand the attractiveness of mobile broadband and take it to the next level in market saturation, they SHOULD be positioning mobile broadband as a home internet solution. Cheaper cost to deliver data through LTE along with increased speeds should allow Verizon to do just that, if they set the price right. American consumers are very price conscious right now, and Verizon needs to do their research and launch this service at the right price point if they want consumers to welcome LTE into their homes and laptops with open arms and open wallets.
The average customer probably won't want to spend money on a second internet connection, but they would be very willing to dump their current internet provider and use an LT...

Why would a mobile solution be positioned as a home solution? Mobile broadband's monthly cost is best justified when the service is intended for travel. The only people who should rely on mobile broadband as a home Internet solution are people who absolutely can't get anything but dial-up or satellite.

its that line of thought that is limiting verizon's market share. people used to only think of cell phones as something you used when you left your house. Now people are canceling landline phones and relying only on "mobile" phones. Mobile means it can move; mobile doesn't imply that it can't be used stationary. Until now, mobile broadband was more expensive from a cost-per-unit of data calculation, but with LTE that could all change. Why pay for cable internet and an aircard? When you leave the house you aren't using your cable internet, but its still connected and you still pay for it. If you don't have other people left at home while you are traveling, it would be much more cost effective to have something like a 4G mifi on an unlimited p...

Mobile broadband isn't intended to be used in the same way as home Internet services, though. You'll still need to deal with network congestion, which is still going to be a serious problem with LTE for data hogs.

First of all, the words "Data Limit" make you all go "ZOMGZ EVIL VERIZON I HATE U!!!!!" You haven't even seen what the Tiered data limits and pricing are. It might be a lot more data for the same price.

Consider this:

Comcast has super high speed Internet, and Claims Unlimited. They actually have a 250 GB limit, defined as "abusive usage" or something. The do cut you off if you break this three months in a row. After warning you twice.

AT&T is considering (I haven't seen this enforced yet) the same thing with its DSL services, going from 20 GB with the Lite DSL (768 kbps) to 50 GB for 6.0 Extreme.

WildBlue Sattelite Internet is more ... odd.

You get 2.5 GB upload within a 30 day period, and 7.5 GB download within a 30 day peri...

It's still a lot cheaper to do data over landlines.

I think it will be closer to normal pricing than ever before. But people need to understand that we're still a bit off from having mobile broadband at the cost efficiency of landlines.

i agree, i don't think people realize how much data things like video game systems use, or how about people who stream movies, music etc....if you have windows look how much data one windows update is. To get the same type of service that you would get with a landline on a mobile network it would cost you and arm and a leg. not to mention how many more people you pay in taxes and fees through mobile networks.

I agree that the cost per unit of data through airwaves today is much more than through hardlines. However, at least in my state, the taxes on an aircard are very low. About 8 cents on a $59.99 plan.
