We kind of knew this would happen...
Although LTE is suppose to offer a cheaper and more efficient way of transfering data, I can see where Verizon (and eventually AT&T) is coming from with this.
Verizon is prepping themselves for a culture that is beyond "give me a basic phone or free phone" and more towards using smartphones and a lot more data. I think it's smart of them to introduce tiered plans now instead of thinking unlimited is the way to go and then having to go back on that.
And honestly, I do wish more companies offered this. Right now, I pay $30 a month for an iPhone data plan that I barely use because I am always on wifi. So I may go the entire month and use less than 300MB. It would be great to pay $5 or $10 for every GB used instead of giving "unlimited" d...

It might be wishful thinking, but maybe not. I'm in a similar situation. I have a DROID and so does the wife, she seldom uses the Internet and I would say I was an average user.
It will be interesting to see how these buckets of data apply to us.
Potential in my situation to actually pay less? Like you said wishful thinking? Hopefully not.

But he is the rare few, most iphone users amass a huge amount of data usage. Remember that Iphone cause AT&T network to go to crap.

I guess you've missed this: "Verizon, Sprint account for 63% of nation's mobile data traffic." http://www.zdnet.com/blog/gadgetreviews/repor t-verizon-sprint-account-for-63-of-nations-mo bile-data-traffic/13790

I am not talking about total data traffic, i am talking about why a company like AT&T would add a data cap for their network. The went with unlimited 3g for the iphone and look what happened.

All data which includes the iphone, At&t had been blaming their spotty network on the iphone. The fact their network did not use that much data last years, puts that claim to rest. 😉

I am one of those, too! I would be willing to bet that there are a lot more people to and there are alot more people who would have a smartphone with tiered data than not.

AT&T's crappy data network is their own fault. I live in one of the farther suburbs of St Louis, AT&T has their 7.2MB data network at my house and my average speed on my iPhone is ~3.2Mb- 3.6Mb (per the FCC speed test for the iPhone). That being said, the fastest speed DSL offerred at my address is 1.5Mb based on my distance to the base station. I would would really like to use WIFI at my house but it is so ridiculously slow by the time I put my 2 computers, Xbox360 and blue-ray player on it.
