as the wife and i each use anywhere from 8 - 13 GB of data a month without using phone-as-modem on our moto droids. a tiered plan would not work for us at all.

You may not be up on current events. Sprint's CS has catapulted. It now ranks almost dead nuts with VZW as number one.

That depends on what the tier is though.

I use about 6Gb a month or so (starting to use more with podcasts)

But lets say on a pure 4g phone I use 15gb of data.

let's say that the tiered pricing is $20 for 5gb of data (which I think is high since they are talking about their costs being lower) This means that for my average usage, I'm spending 60 a month on data.

aka, 2x the amount I would typically spend. but wait! what about VOIP? I rarely use my phone anyway, and so what happens if they allow you to get Data only plans, with a $10 tack on to enable messaging/voice. That brings my total to $70 a month, which is a heck of a lot cheaper than the $100 a month the entry level data/messaging plan is.

Perhaps Verizon should have kept its mouth shut until they actually offered specifics. You may be correct and their tiered system will actually benefit many customers. However...no one knows. This should give Sprint a chance to stay in the game.
