Please tell me you're not serious with this post.

1). If you are conducting yourself legally, you have nothing to worry about.

2) This is already done with Postpaid. Why should Prepaid be exempt? If you are postpaid, I would be more upset that your info is tracked and info on prepaid customers is not.

I will be the first to admit that there are some stupid laws in place. This would NOT be one of them.

finally someone who agrees with me.
Theyre not saying they want to be able to trace your phone and know where you are at any moment. But if there is a bomb threat made, they should be able to know who made that call. I watched the WTC fall and I lost some friends there....terrorism is no joke. I have no problem giving up some privacy so that something like that doesnt happen again

Well there is Cuba and North Korea if you wish to go there.

I swear, people are so weird when it comes to privacy!!! When I'm talking on the phone I talk about the most meaningless mumbo jumbo, just passing the time. I've got nothing to hide.

The government doesn't care about listening to people talking about meaningless mumbo jumbo, they care about listening to people plotting to kill Americans, duh!!!

Slammer,

1. They may have nothing to worry about unless their name sounds funny or looks foreign. In other words this doesn't apply across the board.

2. Its about having options, if you take away the anonymity of prepaid, their is less options and less rights.

So people with pre-paid phones are molesters? Always a bunch of fascists willing to give up freedom in the name of the state and safety.

WRONG! People give up rights when they vote and pass stupid laws like smoking in bars and seat belt laws. You dont think give up a right when you vote or dont vote for one of these laws? youre blind!

Blind is also not being able to see past your own selfish requests.

More lives have been saved by wearing seatbelts. I fought for the right to have a choice NOT to wear a seatbelt in fear of enforcing such law would be unconstitutional. That changed when my life and more importantly my Nephew's was spared from certain death by buckling up. The car was totalled beyond recognition. We walked away with minor scratches.

Smoking in a bar or public accessed building forces individuals that do NOT smoke, not to have a choice.

I am realizing most that don't see this logic, are either ignorant or spoiled in having to have things their way all the time.

We need to put things in a little better perspective. I am all for freedom. My Grandfather fought in World War 2, My Father in the Korean War, My Uncle was in Vietnam and My Brother a Marine during Desert Storm. While most will say these wars had nothing to do with Inland Freedom, They fought for this country and witnessed many friends and comrads fall to grace to protect our Security. That's risking far more than giving up a little phone. Today's technology has instituted a whole new level of attack measures beyond Tanks, Missiles Rifles Etc. Telecommunications has progressed so far that it has become an elusive part of the plans of attack. The US as any other country, has a duty to protect their homelands. If this is just one small way to ...

So, we flush our freedoms down the toilet for safety? And please don't wrap yourself in the flag and crap on freedom. Your family isn't the only one who has had loved ones fight for our country. I for one find this just one more step to fascism. Maybe not a big step, but one nevertheless.

Of all things individuals should be fighting over, a simple basic procedure to acquire a prepaid device should not be one of them. Your info to acquire a postpaid is no different. To parry my point into full fledged support for the Government is not only unwarranted, it is conjectured to my actual feelings towards some of the ways Government runs this country. I support this measure, but I also do NOT support many others. Fighting for freedom placates one and the many. To dismiss a small gesture to preserve Security is irresponsible and does not constitute clear thinking.

Agreed. It's all baby steps toward their goal of being able to monitor everyone every second of the day. People don't see the big picture. They are OK with it because they don't remember all the baby steps the government has already gone and are oblivious or simply don't care where it leads to.

Notice how every time the privacy/rights of the people in this country takes a hit, it's always for our protection? Shouldn't we have the right to choose what "protections" warrant government intervention and what protection we supply ourselves?

We're not even allowed to vote as...

So at what point do you treat an infection? People are making a Mountain out of a Mole Hill here. This simple basic procedure is nothing more than to keep tabs on sales and to who. If you don't like it, do not purchase a prepaid. Better yet, relinquish your postpaid to even the stand on your beliefs in the right for freedom. Are you willing to sacrifice your postpaid to get the point across?

So I hear alot of your fighting against this, yet no explination or suggestions on how to solve the issues at hand. Without this important pre-requisite, I have no basis to vote on your candidacy for President.

I own a home and I have certain proceedures implemented to secure my home. I have the right to ask who is stepping on my property and why they are there. I have the right to employ the legal means to follow up on getting these answers. America is also my home as well as yours and the government has the right to know is in our home and how they are conducting themselves.

Your weakness to recognize small steps to protect your home, increases the strength for one to execute back door assaults.

As I asked in another post: if yo...

So what's your point? If I purchase a firearm with cash, I shouldn't be ID'd? If I purchase an automobile with cash, I shouldn't be forced to have it insured or registered? Afterall, these items are mine fair and square. I shouldn't need to do anything I don't want to do.

There is the comment people use that reads something like...."if it saves just one life it is worth it"!

Sounds good. But where will that stop? If we drop the speed limit to 20 mph. As if it saves just one life????

Come on. Where do the rights that our parents fought for in wars end? You can make any stupid argument about why it "could work" or is a "good idea". But the freedoms go one by one.

I dont know what your background is in the wireless industry, but I have been selling post paid, and pre paid phones for a long time.
The two of you are making such a huge fuss over something that should have been in effect since the creation of prepaid phones. The government is not asking to run a credit check, nor is it taking any of your freedom away. It is simply making you put your name down when you buy that phone so that you can be identified as the phones owner. Like Slammer stated, its the same thing as buying a gun with cash, or a car without providing proof of insurance. I can not believe how stupid the two of you sound. "Oh its just a small step, soon they will take everything away from us"....

This is another saying: "Perception Becomes Reality". Perceiving something that is out of context, makes you the soul owner of your vision of realization.

The Government is asking for a simple procedure to make Prepaid an equalization on par with acquiring Postpaid.
