I'm all for net neutrality, but the more regulation we pour into an industry the less room we leave for capitalism. Perhaps we simply need to loosen the laws to end some of the issues relating to telecom. For example, Comcast is able to throttle back data speeds because cable companies have local monopolies virtually everywhere, which are awarded by the government. If we end that monopoly Comcast would have to compete directly with other cable companies, and not just satellite and DSL, for market share. Therefore, if a company offered unlimited speeds based on what they could provide you would be able to leave comcast. Economically speaking this would improve market conditions for consumers.

Wrong!!! Comcast got caught throttling down the up and down speeds because of the lack of regulation. No regulation at all will allow companies to do want they want with little recourse, case in point BP and WALL STREET FIRMS hello. The regulation should be there to stop business' from effecting the use of the web in the future by the consumer. To say that regulation is not needed makes no sense. Regulation is needed in most, if not all parts of life. For instance, if there were not police, REGULATING the roads, people would drive where ever they wanted at any speeds including the wrong side of the road and sidewalks. The companies do not need to be handcuffed, but to say a watchful eye is not needed is simply ludicrous. Companies can and wi...

Just wondering who do we give the power to do the regulating? Can not let business and corporations do it. For sure can no be the people. I know government can do it! Yea, It is so much simpler no that we do not have to think for ourselves!!

No kidding. For some people, it's all or nothing, and they can't think of anything in-between. It's too hard for them.

The fact is, without regulation, companies will walk all over the masses to make a profit. The idea that the masses will simply stop using the service is faulty; they have grown to believe they *need* things like cell phones and internet access, and will continue to pay and be screwed while whining about it, unable to do anything because nobody will step in and force change.

The FCC is forcing change, for our benefit. Kudos to them!

The distinction you draw between the "people" and the "government" is both false and telling.

The truth is that the the government is the only means that we the people have to ensure that, among other things, the companies that compete for our business do so on a level field.

It is after all a government "...of the people for the people and by the people..."

There are some areas that have too much regulation. Currently, the wireless industry does not have enough. Most individuals that work in and around the industry, feel that because it is a private sector, Government has no place in its matters. While these thoughts are definitely important points, The fact of reality is that private businesses still need to have regulatory measures to uphold when operating.

In the last decade, the wireless industry has taken on a whole new identity with far more consumer base than ever before. With the market being saturated, far more concerns fall into place as the industry now heavily interacts with its consumers. It is most important that the private sector plays well with the public.

Think of the ...

You got that right. End the cable monopolies! That's some antiquated BS right there.

More competition is ALWAYS good.
