Samsung Wave, First Samsung Bada Phone, Launches in Europe
Another Smart-Phone OS? really? When is too many?
WM (7, 6.5, 6...)
BB
iPhone
Android
WebOS
Maemo
Symian
And now Bada?
How many freakin platforms does their need to be? God Bless Competition... Where does it end tho?
Talk about market fragmentation....
It's stuff like app availability that will steer people to Android/iPhone instead of Bada/WebOS/WM7.
And marketing... Apple has plenty of idio... er... faithful (Hi Scott 🙂 who market freely (Plus actual advertising). Android has "Droid Does".
Microsoft has... um... Seinfeld?
The major players will continue to stay around...
I just worry about too many players on the field leading to market confusion.
I've heard people refer to the Evo before.
It's not the official advertising, but it is very sticky for consumers.
The only company that doesn't get the benefit really is ATT because they just have the backflip, and they market it as a feature phone
Check out :"Motorola expects Android 2.2 update to hit Droid 'in the near future'"

when I show the Hero to people I reference "Droid Does" and the get the 'Ah ha' look on their face.
It may not be universal advertisement... but people know the Android OS by the Droid advertisements.
Klenex, Xerox, etc... when advertising for a certain product is *SO* effective that all other products are refered to it...
That is *Definitely* where the Android sits in regards to Droid Does...

That I think the major players are NOT going anywhere anytime soon.

I agree. It's gonna be about Google and Apple. Blackberry will always have a following, so will Symbian and MS is not gonna let WM go that easy. Nobody cares about WebOS, nothing will become of this Bada. Samsung should be concentrating on low cost Android devices instead. Such as for carriers like MetroPCS, Cricket and Virgin Mobile. This is a waste of time.
I will say OS's will no longer be a monolith like it used to be.
Not only are there different languages, but there are things like Apple's developer agreement that forbids the use of cross compilers, and also has a clause stating that anything Made in their native code can not be cross compiled out for another platform (aka, they own your work)
If companies were open to cross compilers (even if there were some limits placed on them) it wouldn't be a bad thing.
But from the reviews people have done of Bada, it seems like it is more a very advanced Feature Phone OS, and not a smartphone one. Not to mention they're also developing Dumbphones, Android, and Winmo(6.5 and 7)...

I just think it's a good idea.
Anymore, smartphones are about apps. Look how heavily palm tried courting developers, but they weren't interested since the market was so small, and people didn't buy the phone partially because of how small the market is (and what was one of the worst ad campaigns in history) Developers will only waste their resources on platforms they think will return a profit, no matter how sweet the other options try and be.
Target, Walmart,...

While Wal-mart can buy the same shirts that Target sells and under-cut them...
You can't necissarily take App X on Android then just magically sell it on Bada/iPhone/7/etc...
Just like you can't take Crysis on the PC and install it on a Mac/Linux machine without extra work.

Well nothing says they have to create apps for ALL the stores. They could go to the one that they feel they'd profit the most.
If they were looking for max profits, they'd still end up developing for the big 4 (5 if you count symbian) OS's. why write form Bada with 10000 users when you can write for android and have millions of people who may buy your app?
For example, unless os 6.0 is a near complete rewrite, you won't see many game makers developing apps specifically for blackberries. In fact, you won't see a lot of casual apps on there period.
US developers won't develop for Nokia (the #1 maker worldwide), and there are a lot of people who can't, or won't develop for apple because their apps won't make it past the approval process.
Bada? unless they allow adobe air, I don't see much help for them either.
I don't see many people developing for Palm unless their next versions of WebOS (with HP at the helm) have some SERIOUS hardware upgrades and an add campaign that doesn't suck.
So that leaves u...

there is also customer lock-in.
Its one reason why I don't buy stuff on my iPhone... because when I move to Android, 7, or whatever I don't want hundreds or thousands of dollars in "stuff" to just dissapear.
Unless someone makes a product that I can purchase once and use everywhere...
Look at Steam... they just updated their system so that you can purchase a game for the PC... and then play the same game on the Mac - and soon the Linux.
Buy once, work everywhere.
As opposed to buy once, work only on one platform.
Atleast with Android I'm not locked into Motorola... or Samsung... or HTC.
Hell... there is even the possibility of being able t...

but i think there are people working so its easy to port in, nokia is doing cross platform between ovi and meego with qt, i think palm tried making it easy for iphone apps to be transferred to webOS, and i think u mention adobe also, so there is a movement towards unification.
i hate samsung though, they make their products really really attractive but leave u hanging for updates as soon as u opened the box.. sigh... im stuck with my jet for 9 more months.. zzz

1. Symbian S60/S^3
I'm running a beta S3 at the moment and it is phenomenal. Stable, fast, full flash on the browser, completely customisable and very finger friendly.
Plus S60 isn't going to be going anywhere either. Considering that there are over 800 Million S60 devices in the world, S60 is greater that the sum of all mobile OS smartphones combined.
Consider it the PS2 of the mobile smartphone environment.
2. Android
Android is nice but still needs work especially in terms of battery life. But I have used Froyo and you can...
