The reality is that the largest majority of AT&T customers are actually satisfied with their carrier. Most people who are (justifiably) complaining about AT&T coverage fall into one of three groups:
1) They had AT&T (or one of its other inceptions) while they operated on TDMA, GAIT or the very beginning of GSM.
2) They had a first or second generation iPhone before OS 3.x was released.
3) They live or work in NYC or San Francisco.
Most other people are just whining without any actual basis for their whining.
AT&T and Verizon are the top tier carriers in the USA. Both have similar coverage maps for voice, and each has the market in 3G in one way or another: VZW has a larger EV-DO map than AT&T's HSPA map, and AT&T's HSPA routin...

Is this definitely going to happen? Will verizon get an iphone of its own to sell? I thought they were not getting an iphone, if they could I would think they would have done so already. I think ATT figures they can and will do this because they feel secure that they are the only provider of service for the iphone. Is iphone their most popular selling smart phone I believe it is, and they likely want to maintain exclusive rights to it, though I could be wrong, can't say I know how these deals work.

This post is misinformed.
Verizon has been "getting the iPhone in a few months" for 2 1/2 years. The likelihood of VZW landing iPhone any time soon (like, before their LTE network is bug-free and available nationwide) is small, at best.
Besides, while most at AT&T would never admit it, they're likely looking forward to the influx of mobile data usage on Verizon's network from iPhone usage. It's easy to throw stones when your network isn't seeing 5000-8000% growth of data usage in less than a year.
I, for one, would be very interested to see if Verizon's infrastructure could handle even 250k iPhones without significant upgrades, let alone several million. I'd bet that AT&T would win back a bunch of carrier-jumpers within the 30 day t...
