Where was this "FCC" during the VZW-Alltel merger?
I mean honestly. 🙄

That's exactly what I was thinking. I didn't think there was any way possible that the FCC would okay the merger of Alltel and Verizon, but low and behold they did it without as much of a hickup. The wireless world today is exactly what the FCC has made it. And lets not even talk about the Sprint Nextel or the Cingular AT&T Wireless Merger...

I was just going to mention the Sprint Nextel merger(#3 and #5 ranked carriers at the time I believe). The FCC is a joke. 🤣

😲 This is the first time i agree with you.... Is it Dec 2012 lol.

Shame on you!
The seeds for the Alltel "merger" were sewn long ago. Do you really believe allowing Cingular to buy ATTWS was any better? Once the previous regime allowed THAT merger then of course Sprint would be allowed to purchare Nextel (foolishly) and Verizon to purchase Alltel (or was it Alltel who purchased Verizon? The way things are being run over there now. One has to wonder).

Before you know it the cell phone industry will be in trouble and then be declared "too big to fail" and you know where it goes from there.

The VZW-ALLTEL merger was approved Pre-Obama administration. Republicans are in favor of growing businesses where as Democrats tend to prefer smaller companies that they can control. I wouldn't expect any big mergers in the Wireless industry in the next 2 years.

There is a guy in the White House goes by the name of Barak Obama. Perhaps you have heard of him? Well...he's a Democrat and they are a little less cozy with mergers and such than Republicans normally. So...a change at the top of the executive branch also meant the FCC shifted as well. It's too late in any case...the damage is done. Ask those Verizon employees who were and are being dumped as part of the "synergies" from the Alltel "merger". Yes...Life IS Good...at the Top.
