That's precisely the reason I left ATT, lack of ambition!

They just got on the bandwagon late. Just like they did with GSM.

Wow, your quite the wireless historian! So ATT was late with GSM also? When was the switch over from TDMA to GSM? I think it was like 1991?

Hello, no--AT&T didn't make the switch to GSM until early this decade. I think they finally overlaid their network by...the end of 2004?

I remember selling TDMA phones to customers at Circuit City in the summer of 2002.

Ha! I remember that phone. I sold it. Nokias always sold best when it came to GSM back then.

AT&T was TDMA in 1999 when I first started with them, so no 1991 is WAY off!

No one said WiMAX was the future. Many would have hoped it would be. I personally highly support it because:

1) It allows a choice between LTE or WiMAX.

2) Acts as a governor for LTE.

Personally, I don't understand the hate for WiMAX. LTE and WiMAX are almost identical in how they operate and are both based off of OFDM technology. Essentially, the difference is more of just the names. Yes, LTE is newer in development, But so is CDMA yet GSM took hold of the world.

If technology was to be the attraction for super fast 4G, UMB would've been the ultimate choice. Far faster than LTE.

I really don't see a rush for Sprint/Clearwire to switch just yet. The difference in overall capacity of the two, is miniscule. Why switch so fast a...

I would be 100% shocked if sprint did not release a lte/wimax modem in the next 10 years. I would also be 100% shocked if verizon did not. Wimax and lte are made to work together. LTE is for mobile device. Wimax is made for wireless broadband. Wimax will back haul lte.

In the future you will be with either sprint or verizon. You will move from lte to wimax to lte with out losing any signal. They will support each other.
Wimax has the bandwidth, hardware, and software flexibility to function 100s of times better in dense urban landscapes like new york or los vegas. It is so cheap to install and run that most people reading this post can afford it.

So in the future, you will use wimax when you are in the city. You can put 100's of bas...
