Yeah, I saw that headline when I went over to AC to check out the 2.2 party over @ that site. But in order to stream music from your pc to your Android 2.2 device you'd have to have internet on both devices, that's just too much $ for me. Internet on one device, my Droid, is enough. Besides I've got a 16gb memory card in my Droid, that's more than plenty for my music

for guys like me (300GB of music) is well worth it for me. My DJ pals (N1 users) will love this too. They can bring the music they like and now they can pull their demos up without taking a lot of space on their phones.

I've been wondering where you've been at our "virtual Phone Scoop Google conference"

Well, I'm perticularly glad to see that our Motorola Droid is among those that will receive the 2.2 update. How ?LONG? do you think it'll take Vzn?!!!?

Do you think Vzn will disable the wifi tethering?

Also, what is the deal with saving apps2sd??? I thought I read somewhere that was going smooth so far. I didn't see any mention of that in the article.

Am I right that after FroYo, Gingerbread is next, then after that the updates will probably be annual. Is that how you know it's going to happen?

I think the update cycle will slow because updates will be pushed through the marketplace more often so Core OS rewrites (and Kernal updates) won't be needed as much.

But I think with Gingerbread you'll see a split. The browser and other things will update a LOT faster than current cycles, but the numbers (aka 2.1, 2.2, etc) will take a lot longer to change. (longer being 8-12 months)

But it's all up in the air at this point.

I was seriously not expecting all of the changes that happened.

When you get a chance, would you let me know what you think of this? I read this in the forums over @ Engadget.

Now.. Customers are aware that updates bring new functionality, and if the provider is tardy with the updates, they will find themselves with fewer customers, because up to date software will be a big selling point. And if Android keeps growing, and if phone manufacturers design the ability to easily accept up[dates for say the next three years minimum then the pressure on providers to keep things up to date increases.

Do you agree with what this person said?

no. I think that the furthest a phone manufacturer should have to continue updating a phone is 2 years, and only for SIGNIFICANT changes. AkA, while nice, I don't think the 2.1 update was really needed for the droid (especially if it meant shorter approval for 2.2)

up to date software is NOT a selling point. Case and point is the iphone. It is updated once a year, often merely adding features that have been present in other phones for years (hello copy/paste)

What sells a phone are the features present on the device AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. The problem with most tech people, and thus tech blogs, is that they are used to the apple "everyone on the same page" update scheme, even though Apple (and webOS) are the ONLY platforms doing ...

Dang that was a long post, but I read it all. Really the only comment I have is you said Apple is upgrading their hardware, we don't know that for sure, we know all about OS 4.0, but not the hardware, just yet.

But I sure am glad we're going to be getting the 2.2 update, I'm just a little cautious about whether Vzn will be cool about wifi tethering, ooooohhh I hope so!!!!

we know the phone is being updated. Not only does the beta of OS4.0 point to a front facing camera, but the leaked prototype that gizmodo had was retrieved using legal action and apple had the editor's door kicked in.. they wouldn't do that over a prop

This is really funny, I read this post on AC. The headline is about comparing the PC-Mac wars of the 1980s with the Android-Iphone wars of these days.

Here's the link to the article:

http://www.androidcentral.com/comparing-android-ipho ... »

This post, and the video, really reflects a totally different mindset in the Android community Readers here would do well to surf on over to The Iphone Blog Tipb.com and read the sour grapes post by the editor on May 20th, and compare it to the whole tone of AndroidCentral and the above video The jealousy fear and hate that Rene displays of anything Android is just sad. It really is time for Smartphone Experts to start looking for a new editor for TiPb. You neve...

Apple can code, Google can't.

Not a good thing when your earlier topic was "Android phones are only getting 4 hours of battery life" 🤣

They're just not arrogant enough to claim that they use the only acceptable way to code

That's because they know their momentum and market niche is driven solely by claiming their platform is "open" and about "choice" and other feel-good BS.

If you don't think it's BS, go read Vic Gundotra's uh... visionary quote.

I'm talking about their approach to web content as well.

Or did you miss the part of them creating a HTML5 compliant codec for video streaming that DOESN'T require an insane licensing fee?

Or maybe you missed the improvements they've made to Chrome, both on the PC and in android. They know how to Code, but they allow others to do it their own way if they want, (that's why most of their development is for html5, but they still worked with Adobe to bring flash, both to mobile, and to Google TV)

This must be a sad day for you. You're really grasping at straws trying to mock them.

What do you mean by "grasping at straws"? I don't understand that phrase.
