So do you think the almighty wireless carrier will disable the wifi tethering that is being incorporated into 2.2?

I doubt the will disable it, but you can be pretty sure that they will charge for it like they did when the Palm Pre Plus was first released.

Or more likely, it will have a cap for it.

Doubt they can make it something that needs to be "activated" without losing the "google experience" tag

So will there be two seperate ways of keeping track of data? One on the Droid itself, cause that's unlimited, and one that you think will have a limit for the wifi tethering. Well wouldn't it work similarly to how the Pre Plus works?

One thing that you have to remember with the Moto Droid is there are 2 different apps that allow for tethering of this phone. Also keep in mind that you have to have the Verizon Access Manager installed on your computer for it to work. Since there has been no update, that we know of, that states Verizon is going to be offering the ability for it, might as well go with the cheap way. Verizons tethering is an extra $30 a month on top of your bill, with PDANet, its a one time charge of $29.99, but with Easy Tether, its $9.99 and your done and ready to use your Moto Droid as a modem, I have been doing it since December.

I've tried to use the free version of pdanet already, and I got this "Failed to connect" crap, and yes I went to the junefabrics website and d/l the drivers to my laptop. I haven't a clue what I did wrong! It's really frustrating.

What do you think about this? Andy Rubin calls it legacy, not fragmentation.

Bit of a misnomer imo. I agree that we're kind of at the split right here. I think phones made this year (and the Droid) should be able to handle whatever gingerbread throws at it. older phones... not so much.

People can cry about fragmentation if they want, but when they need to realize is that going from 1.5-2.2 is a significantly larger leap than ANY other os has done in three years time. It's going to strain old hardware.

I don't really play games all that often on my Droid either. My mther really gets a kick out of Talking Parrot though!

So did your father get a Droid yet? I know you said he was thinking about it.

My friend Jackie got one recently, she likes hers. Before the Droid she had the LG Darem and said she made too many typing errors on it. She says she types much better on the Droid.

Don't you think that if his came with 2.2 out of the box that we would be getting the 2.2 update at the same time also?

Even though it's been such a long, long time (original Nintendo) since I've played video games on a regular basis, I really want to play some good games, and now that we'll be able to store apps on sd cards, the games will be able to be laerger files, and hopefully more graphical. I want a space game of some sorts.
