...is last year's technology. By the time at&t covers all of their folks with it, Sprint will have deployed 4G in most of the major markets, & Tmobile will right there with big blue-- for a whole lot less $$$.

Tell that to the 99% of people who don't have 4G (WiMax or LTE).

Also, for cell phones, data speeds don't really mean much.

For those who WANT the speeds... 7.2 is pretty good: 7.2 DOUBLED is even better. Doubly better.

and available for 250million people.

vs building a new network from the ground up - either via WiMax (including the need for all new phones - cuz switching from GSM to WiMax is easy/cheap 🙄 ), or via LTE (Which ain't even finalized as a product yet)

LTE's not finalized, huh? Well guess what, just recently Vzn did a promotional video showing off it's progress with it's 4G network in Boston in a bar, with people, sounds pretty damn real to me, I even watched the YouTube vid.

250 million people... all they need to do is cover a few major cities and they have that 250 million people mark. Sorry, you guys in the burbs, you have to wait.

...if ever. Full disclosure...I live in a small town and do not expect to ever see Wi-Max or LTE here. But when does it ever make sense to cover the back woods (like here in Alabama) when more pops can be covered in a major city which has good but not great coverage? I don't expect Sprint to ever waste that kind of money. Verizon didn't do it either. They let Alltel cover small towns and rural areas (it was Alltel's niche) and paid them roaming fees for a while until they finally decided to gobble them up.

was finalized as a standard recently...

yet you could get wireless n routers two years ago plus.

companies dont always wait for a standard to be finalized before they act.

whether that is tue case here, im not sure. But a "working" product based on a standard doesnt mean its standard compliant OR based on a finalized vsrsion of said standard

Or the 21mbs that Tmobile (and I'm assuming ATT) will push out?

Even though it's on the same frequency, you still need the appropriate tech to handle the faster speeds.

HSPA+ or Wimax OR lte will all require different phone tech to take advantage of the speeds. So there really isn't that big of a difference, with the exception of the tower investment costs (possibly) but Tmobile and ATT are spending the money on HSPA and then they will have to spend it on 4g anyway.
