I did the mail in rebate thing just under a year ago with sprint. I sent it off as soon as I could and it still took almost 3 months to get the money back.

Mail in rebates are a pain and I applaud any company that can offer low prices without dealing with mail in rebates.

Straight outta the knowledge base
Customers that upgrade and are only eligible for $75.00 are not eligible for mail-in rebates. The MIRs will be rejected.
Customers are not eligible for mail-in rebate when a device is purchased 1 of the following retail locations because store gives all device discounts instantly.
Best Buy
Office Depot
RadioShack
Sam's Club
Ultimate Electronics
Wal-Mart
Third Parties (Amazon.com, eBay, and so on.)
😛 It takes 10-14 weeks to receive rebate check. 😛
Rebate checks cannot be sent as payment on Sprint account.

I totally agree. People go to the sprint store for phonebook swaps, billing issues and everything else, believe me buying it from a Sprint store is 100% better. And as a Preferred retailer here in IN (owned by Wireless Express) we do instant rebates on any phone with a data plan at this time, and we are across several states as well.

When iPCS was bought out one of the agreements we set up was to allow us to still do instant rebates for sometime, no date placed when it will stop.

I am sorry for the frustration this might have caused. All of our Mobile Consultants are sent through a training to know how to better understand your needs, and how to accommodate them.
You are not charged a data transfer fee, when you buy phones through us. If you were, that is incorrect, and you can go get your money refunded.
We have 4 customer promises we operate by, and no mail in rebates, it of course a large one. Again, I am sorry for the frustration, if you need more assistance, please go to www.bestbuymobile.com, and we can get you set up with correct people to talk to.

Um, I don't know what Best Buy you went to but every time I have purchased a phone from there everything is done perfectly fine for me. They always offer to transfer my numbers and I have never had to pay. When I bought my Pre last year the guy set up the email. The ppl at Sprint stores are so rude and pushy I dont see why ppl even buy phones from the carrier stores, especially b/c of those rebates. When I went three years ago it took 2 months before my rebate came back.

Usually it's the people who buy from RadioShack that will come in to our store with unactivated phones that haven't had their numbers transfered. I do get that from time to time with Best Buy customers, but it seems like Radioshack is the biggest culprit for selling a phone and saying, "oh you want that phone to work? Go to a Sprint store."

I also agree that this is *not* news either, Best Buy always offers instant rebates instead of mail ins. You better believe that will always be a big differentiator. BBuy would throw a tantrum if Sprint retail stores could do away with mail in rebates, otherwise why in the world buy from Best Buy?

Well actually Best Buy's prices are cheaper too. Just a few weeks ago my brother went there to upgrade to the new BB Curve and all he had to do is pay $19.99 for it without the rebate. Sprint was selling the same phone for $50 after the mail in rebate. Plus they transferred his contacts and even his text messages for free, and he didn't have to wait over an hour to get helped or deal with pushy commisioned salesmen like at the Sprint store. Why do ppl still shop at carrier stores is still a mystery to me.

Dude nobody cares how much you are in love with Best Buy. People are going to buy wherever they feel like anyways. Your opinion of Sprint isn't going to change everyone elses minds. Get over it. Shop where you want and other people will do the same.

No matter how much money i save at Radioshack or Best Buy because they are trying to sucker you into there store to buy more stuff. I will not buy a EVO phone from those two places. Sprint rep's know more about those phones then any of those people will ever know!! Radioshack is looking for there commish and dont care about you. And Best Buy will just send you out the door with the phone without any help! So go to the Sprint store and pass on all the rest. You will be much more happier in the long run.

I'm able to figure out how to use a phone so why not save some money or avoid a mail in rebate whenever I can.

I agree that sprint store employees may know more than some of the other places but to say they're the know it all experts and try to say the other places only care about their commision is a bit misleading. Don't blame best buy or radio shack, blame sprint for handicapping their own employees with the mail in rebate BS.

That's true, the Sprint rep's do indeed probably know more about the phone. The great thing is that people can buy the phone for a lot less, avoid waiting 8 years to get a MIR back (if they get it at all) and then if they have problems figuring out their new phone, well by golly they set up a ready now appointment and go to the sprint store to have you show them how to use the phone.

Best of both worlds.

I've bought my entire family's phones from Best Buy and never delt with monkeys. Never been charged anything extra to transfer contacts either.

On the other hand, I have had nothing but trouble with the carrier store here, they don't seem to care to help me unless I'm buying something big.

Moral of the story is "milage will vary," I'm sure there's tons of good Best Buy's and bad ones as well as carrier stores.
