Holy cow....$10 extra for 4G and extra $29.99 for mobile hotspot??? are they nuts??
I thought they would offer it for free like VZW Palm Pre.
...
How do you know this?
...
Yea really what are your sources?
...
What you need to know:
The critics agree that HTC EVO 4G is this summer’s must-have wireless experience as it continues to win their accolades and endorsements. CNET, LAPTOP and eWeek gave HTC EVO 4G awards for Best of Show when it was announced at CTIA this spring.
Well the wait is over, almost. Tonight at a special event in New York, Dan Hesse announced HTC EVO 4G will be available exclusively from Sprint on June 4, 2010 in all Sprint retail channels, including Telesales, Sprint.com and national retail partners, RadioShack, Best Buy and Wal-Mart.
Why you need to know it:
Although it won’t be available for 3 more weeks, Hesse’s announcement was made to a large gathering of bloggers, wireless media, tech influencers ...

Please no griping. 4G on the EVO is easily worth an extra $10 per month. If you don't think so then this is not the phone for you.
...
I dont have 4g and I dont wanan pay for a service I dont even have its stupid for them to charge 10 dolars more a month they said them selves 4g was cheape then 3g so they charge extra? Dan hesse is a liar
...
The $10 is optional. You pay $10 if you want to be able to access WiMax/4G. If there is no 4G in your area there is no need for you to add that premium.
...
its not option you want an evo you pay 10 bucks extra go reread the statement I just called sprint and they said its a requirement
...
I'm looking at the price sheet right now. If you don't want 4G you don't have to pay the $10 extra. The Sprint person you talked to is uninformed.
...
Sprint is holding the phone hostage for you and I to pay a lot more. They're not getting a red cent from me. They have some nerve to charge for wifi tethering. It's been available as an app the touch pro and touch pro 2 for a couple of years now.
Forcing us to pay $10 extra (which is true.... i called as well) is also bogus, particularly since ther is no 4G service!! There won't be either for a long time, at least not where most of us live.
It gets worse. I called Sprint earlier tonight to order the phone to find out that I was also forced to take on their 1500 minute + everything plan. It literally would increase my monthly bill by $40 and that was without the tethering.
Good luck Sprint. Time for me to research and find a new car...

awww poor thing. My heart bleeds...
Good luck finding another carrier out there who will allow you to have any phone on a data plan with unlim text and 1500 mins for less than the $130 at sprint. att is $120 for the minutes and text. $30 a phone for a smartphone. So two phones there, 1400 mins, unlim text & data will run you $180. Same at vzw. Oh, and factor in an extra $10/line for GPS, $10/line for TV and (for att at least) an extra $17 for nights at 7.. all of which is included in Sprint's plan.
Have fun with your research. 🙂
...
Well put.
No other wireless carrier includes as much as Sprint does with their plans.
...
You should do research first. Unlimited Talk and Text is 89.99 on Verizon. Unlimited data is 29.99, so that's 119.98. Get a droid and free Navigation. Also, if they got unlimited calling, WHY would you need free calling after 7? Sprints is only unlimited calling to mobile phones. When Roaming, all usages (except nights and weekends) comes from anytime mins.
...
The 1500 minute plan he is referring to is a 2 line deal, actually, making it kind of moot since you're talking about a single line plan.
The research has been done, and you can see it over and over in these threads. The only company that is even close on monthly costs is going to be T-Mobile.
As far as the $10 a month, worth every cent to me.
...
So for 99.99 you get the same thing on sprint, plus free tv and radio... so i dont see your point. Sprint is still $20 dollars cheaper which saves you $480 dollars over a 2 year contract and $2400 dollars over a ten year span.
...
That's all fine and good that for one phone for unlimited everything it's 119.98, and that for a specific type of phone you get free nav too. How about that second line that was in there too? I guess maybe you should do a little more reading first.
p.s. unlimited everything including nav, tv, etc is only 99.99 on sprint. Still 19.99 cheaper than vzw's plan that doesn't include at no extra cost(on ALL phones) or include mobile tv at no extra cost either.
Stop trying to compare apples and oranges here. You're going to be hard pressed to find a way that, apples to apples, vzw costs less than Sprint.
...
Again...if you don't purchase this device it is a non-issue.
...
I completely agree with Azeron. You have no business buying this phone if you are mad about the extra $10. $80 a month for unlimited everything, including 4g coverage is not even comparable to any other service out there. Good work Sprint! Looks like you are on your way to selling millions of these babies!
...
Where did you read unlimited 4G internet? I must know for sure, because it's likely that only 5gigabytes will be allotted per customer, however if what your saying is true people on 3G allotted services will be flocking towards sprint/HTC EVO in fucccing droves.
...
Refresh the phonescoop home page, there is an article.
...
it was always unlimited ever since it started 🙄
5Gig is only for 3G speeds
...
Probably the same press release that Phonescoop got the release date and price from?
"In order to provide the best experience, HTC EVO 4G will use Sprint's industry-leading Everything Data or Business Advantage Messaging and Data plans that include unlimited Web, texting and calling on the Sprint Network to every mobile in America with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM. Everything Data plans start at $69.99 per month. A $10 per month Premium Data add-on will apply allowing customers to take advantage of a richer data experience than ever before.
Additionally, an optional pricing add-on will turn HTC EVO 4G into a mobile hotspot connecting up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices, such as laptops, gaming devices and digital cameras, simultaneously at 4G ...

Yet, this is still a great bargain in every sense. Many people are paying much more a month on their plans for phones that can't do what this one can do.

I hope it steals a lot of Iphone customers from ATT!!!

All companies want their employees to promote certain things, like if you walk into a Vzn store the first words out of their mouth will probably be would you like to see an HTC Droid Incredible?
...
Fist off, verizon doesnt offer a 4g hotspot 🤣 and second 79.99 a month is way cheaper than any verizon plan with comparable features.
...
Even 109.99(including mobile hotspot) is right there with VZW,
...
And this is for 4g, while verizon is only 3g.
...
lets be fair, this is for 3.5g, at best. wimax isn't a new technology and it sure doesn't compete with the 4g that everyone else is cooking up.
...
ugh here we go again; there will be a Wimax 2 update; research it, live it, love it
...
Currently there IS no competition. Get back to us when Verizon launches LTE and we can debate it then.
...
verizon HAS launched lte in two of its major markets, and WILL have launched in over 30 by the end of the year.

----- Great INFO on Wimax vs. LTE -----
by DE 2 Philly Monday, 12:21 PM
Wimax and LTE are not competing against each other. There is no winner/loser. They are not made to destroy each other. Wimax is going nowhere. Ultimately wimax will have more coverage. Why? Because cities will use wimax for everything from parking meters to free wimax. Cable companies will use it as last mile of service. Walmart will use it for connections from store to store. Every corporation will use it to replace wifi and a wimax phone will be able to use all those towers for free. That is the wonderful thing about wimax. The standard says any app, any device, and any founding carrier. LTE is only a cellphone standard, only going to be used by cellphones. Comp...

The current WIMAX platform is 802.16e. It can burst at 40mbps and frequently runs at 20mbps. Clear often caps the speeds to provide a consistent user experience. Even so we get anywhere from 6-12mbps in my store. The next level of WIMAX is 802.16m which will burst at 1gbs and provide speeds in the 50-100mbps range. LTE at this time is delivering 20-50mbps on dormant networks. This is the same argument that GSM fans used that EVDO is not real 3G. It is the same cast of clowns behind LTE.
WIMAX is 4G make no mistake about it. It is a worldwide standard used everywhere but Europe who demands a home grown network.
THe other issue for LTE is bandwidth, there is only the 700mhz band divied up, or the AWS band divied up. Clear has between 100 a...

Oh yeah. Verizon is such a rip-off. To get what you get on Sprint's $69 Everything Data plan you're already looking at $89 on Verizon and that's before taxes and with no anytime mobile and no 7pm nights. No thank you Verizon!
...
Man you would think Sprint would have 100 million customers being so stellar and CHEAP!
But yet NOONE wants them! Hmmmmm
...
i guess buying out competitors really makes you the best and gives you the right to jack up prices, sure they where gaining more people, but that's because they bought more people first, and with mobile2mobile got their relatives too...
stop hating .. try it first.

Tmo is pretty damn cheap also, but yet there aren't droves of people flocking to Tmo.

MennoMay 12, 2010, 6:39 PM
That is why it is free.
It is also 3g and capped. the evo's is 4g and unlimited

One time when I was @ a Vzn store, there was a Palm rep sitting @ a desk all by himself, kinda sad.
...
I wouldn't call that thinking at all. Verizon is trying to dump the Pre Plus. You don't see Big
Red offering that free feature on any of their other handsets do you? Then why would Sprint give it away on their flagship device?
...
Sprint
$69.99 (unlit everything cell2cell)
$10 for 4G
$30 for mobile hotspot for 8 devices (!!!)
=$109.99
Verizon
$69.99 unlit talk
$30 for smartphone data 3G
$20 for unlit text
$30 for 5GB of tethering (free on the Pre ONLY)
=$119.99 for Pre, $149.99 for other phones
AT&T
$69.99 unlit talk
$30 for smartphone data/iPhone 3G
$20 for unlit text
$30 for 5GB of tethering (no mobile hotspot, non iPhone)
= $149.99
Sprint’s expensive eh?
...
Point goes to you. Nice job!
...
and they're in no position to be charging extra for anything! They still are a sinking ship that lost 550 thousand POST PAID customers last quarter. They have had rock bottom pricing for years yet millions are choosing better networks and customer service and PAYING MORE to be with them. This phone will be a flop, not because it's not cool but because sprint sucks and they mess up everything they touch. Just another PRE, FLOP! Yes a few dorks are excited and rightfully so, but the general public still hates sprint, and they deserve to be hated for providing a crap network and third world customer service!
...
😛 and ypu are with who?
...
Thanks for backing me up!
...
sprint is the best 🤤 they pay me$$$ haha
...
So if you were working for Vzn, would they be the best just because they pay you?
...
i´m not sure but i don´t live in USA haha so I don´t know how sprint, verizon, at&t or t-mobile work but family members that live in USA love sprint so it´s a family thing 🤤
...
3rd world customer service? umm wasn't VZW the provider that gladly handed out an 18k bill, and wasn't ATT&T the other company that handed out an 8k bill? At least sprint has a $75.00 data cap. I have had all three big carriers, and I currently have sprint with the Hero. Att&T refuses to insure half of it's phones, Big red is just outrageously expensive, both of their networks are poor, and customer service is poor. I've had one dropped call since I started with sprint in 2008.
...
id like to reply to the idiot who says spring sucks, i was with verizon for 8 years and just switched to sprint!! so far i love sprint, awesome plans and fast data unlike verizons slow ass speeds and over rated coverage map. i could really give a rats ass if verizon has coverage in some po dunk town in kansas.. 😁
...
Yes third world customer service! Do you just like to repeat thing. oh here we go again lets see who is BRINGING in customers and who is SINKING losing customers left and right and know matter what they do NOONE wants them. hmmmm oh SPRINT!
...
Hmmmm... no,I don't think so,have you checked the stock market lately? And I think they're getting ready to get a boost!
...
How well did Verizon and AT&T do last quarter? Have you even used sprint in the past 5 years?
...
Ps. Ladies Hate uneducated fanboys
...
sprint doesnt suck, the american society does, with the peoples sense of entitlement wishing to get the most expensive smartphones for free just for signing a contract when they dont even pay their bills on time, forgeting that that is the reason why you do business with each other, you pay and you get service/a product in return. sure there should be incentives for doing so, and there are lots of incentives in place. btw though it is a lost that 500k of yours is actually an improvement with more than 1million that they lost in one single quarter i think last year or was it 2008, that definetly means sprint is recovering.
...
Hmmm crap network?? Man it must REALLY be bad if VZW is SCRAMBLING to try and get the same thing that they have.
Third world customer service?? I have news for you, the whole wireless industry does not rate over a B- in customer service. While this is no excuse, by comparison the difference between being a B- and a C+ is very minimal.
Why don't you educate yourself before you insert your foot in your mouth next time.

All the blogs and forums are RAGING!
They're going to force the $10 "premium data" on everyone, even if they don't have 4G in their area!!!
Hey sprint you suck and you're not att and verizon!

sprint just killed themselves again, no shocker.

can´t you people understand that EVO is going to have aditional features that requier special add on... not for the 4G nut for special features!!!

Not really. People are paying upwards of double a month on plans for their phones that can't possibly do what this phone can do. WiMax will be available in 40+ markets within the next 6 months. This means you should understand the need for the extra charge. What is the point of buying this phone if you are not going to use the services of what 4G will deliver? I personally am willing to shell out a measly 10 dollars more to ensure I...

WOW! What did Sprint do to you?!?

They're not Verizon. Sour grapes.
...
"Sprint just killed themselves again" that's funny!!!
But yeah, I agree, don't charge for a service if it isn't available!!!
Duh Sprint!!!
...
Blackberry charging extra just for having a Blackberry! For most companies it's at least a $20 addon.
...
Sprint isn't charging extra for the 4G. That is something that is being thrown around on several sites, but it simply isn't true.
The $10.00 fee is there simply because of the expectation of tremendous amounts of data that will be used. It is more accurate to think of the iPhone and the data fee being more expensive than it would be on a feature phone- it is the same time of charge.
...
Then don't buy it until 4g is available in your area or not at all, no one making you buy it.
...
The sales on this will be no where near the droid or iPhone. Only tech geeks that troll sites like this actually care which represent a very small amount of customers. The iPhone will break 1 million the first weekend and this will be lucky to sell a million after a couple months. Seems like a great device but even this won’t save sprint.
...
fair enough. but there isn't really no harm in trying right? (specially if your a sinking ship, as some might say)
...
The Evo will do plenty fine!!!
...
It most certainly can sell more than a million!!! The big ? is how many people will be willing to port to Sprint from another carrier for the Evo. It all depends on how well Sprint markets the Evo.
...
Save Sprint from what? you guys been saying this for years and sprint is still here. If At&t didn't have the Iphone they wouldn't be where they are now, alot of customers left Sprint for the Iphone. So if sprint had the Iphone and there current plan prices?
...
In a lot of ways the Evo either matches or excedes what the Iphone is capable of, so hopefully many of those who did leave Sprint for the Iphone will come back to Sprint for the Evo.

I can say from inside the company that things are constantly optimistic, and honestly only getting better. A lot of what we had to lose as employees benefit-wise to tighten our belts is now being rolled back, new uniforms, even revamping stores that were in need. We're not in the dire straits that some people paint it to be. I would view it as a company that wants to not be considered #3 anymore and is wanting to step ahead in the game.
Also reaching to every employee as an "Ambassador" to customers, I can say that I see a major difference in how our customers interact with and see the brand itself. If I'm just grabbing lunch or out at a bar grabbing an after-work brew I have people constantly talking and asking. Yes you may have those w...
