What if you don't want the Sense UI...

After using the Nexus One and seeing the delays HTC's devices have gone through, what if you want a device that's at the core of the Android experience (aka won't require a 6+ month wait for Froyo)?

Or is Google bailing on the Nexus One? What about the "With Google" devices? Is that class of device disappearing?

This is a shame as honestly, after using the Nexus One (which has grown on me) and the Droid Incredible, I'd pick the Nexus One even with its janktastic trackball and buttons.

I find the Sense UI is absolutely horrendous, needlessly complicated, and vomit-inducingly ugly. If you've used a regular Android device with 2.x, there's no benefit to it. The keyboard HTC bundles with it is nothing short of ridiculously ...

You can buy my girlfriend's moment once she buys an EVO.

As Samsung Moment owners can attest, the OS upgrades aren't just about what GUI is run on top.

But many of us hoped Google-branding would help.

Bluecoyote, have you played with the incredible? Is there any other 2.1 phones with Sense on it? I love Sense on the EVO, it's pretty flipping sweet.

I had an Incredible for a few days on our VZW account.

I'm going to sum up my hatred of Sense like this:

1) The Keyboard is friggin terrible.

2) The dialer re-skin is awful

3) The phone book re-skin is awful

4) The phone lags

5) The green-glossy gradients look awful and aren't done correctly

6) It's glitchy

My personal phone is an iPhone 3G.

Since I occasionally have to develop across multiple platforms and test web applications I have a Palm Pre and Nexus One as well. Usually there's another phone in the arsenal too, recently it was a Droid Incredible however that piece of crap is going back.

Hell just froze over... Android has grown on bluecoyote. Next he will talk about how much he loves Flash video.

The Nexus One has grown on me, but that isn't saying much.

Every single criticism I have of Android, its development model, the leave-the-customer-holding-the-bag approach to improvements, lack of direction, and its crappiness as a platform remains and if anything it's amplified by the phone.

Then I am seriously confused. So you like the hardware, but hate the software? At any rate, I believe your issue with fragmentation should be resolved before year's end. All hail Android 2.2!

Both the hardware and software are mediocre. They're both improvements over prior Android devices.

I think the Nexus One (and its subsequent cancellation) in a sick way proves my point that Google has no idea what they're doing, which is moreso my issue. I don't see Froyo fixing anything other than opening the Flash can-of-worms.

Well, if you don't want Sense UI, apparently the industry's response is "go f2#$ yourself". I hate Sense UI with the burning passion. It's ugly and covers up the whole friggin phone, wastes battery power, and makes Android look like Winmo. I DONT WANT SENSE UI. Thanks industry for giving me a choice. ... this or a muther@$@#$Fing iPhone.

You do realize that SenseUI is only on HTC phones, right? You may have to choose between SensUI, MOTOBlur, TouchWIZ, or whatever else is out there, but don't act like there's no choice. You may not like those choices, but they exist.

Frankly, these are all crap overlays that don't even need to run with Android 2.0. They do nothing other than consume the already taxed CPU power on these devices.

What are you talking about "sense ui is ugly"? Oh, and if you dont like the keyboard, you can get another one.

If you dont like the background, you can get another one.

If you want more memory, you can get another one.

If you need a new battery, you can get another one.

If you break it, you can get another one.

8 mp duel flash "trounces" 3.2

I've owned a droid since they came out and have had 0 issues, that is a fact!

Iphone is good for games, when you finally decide you want to do more than play a pretty game. DROOOIIIID!

The Sense UI is ugly. It throws a bunch of fake-glossy gradients over everything and tries to cram more worthless crap on the screen. It looks like a @!King Ubuntu theme trying to be Mac OSX.

Why do I need to download/buy a 3rd party keyboard? I just want the standard Android keyboard. Look at the standard Android phone book and Sense UI phone book next to each other.

Why do I need to run all of the Sense UI processes in the background? Why can't I disable most of these redundant features?
