Some people for different reasons do not want an iPhone. Some people for different reasons would rather not purchase refurbished (aka used) phones. Some people for different reasons enjoy the multitasking capability of a specific phone.
I agree that the $150 is a bit high when you consider Verizon is selling essentially the same phone for less. I like that it is including the touchstone charger. Mail in rebates are a sad reality these days, but, what is nice is that by the time you forget about them is when they show up so it's like found money.
