Its only a matter of time...
This is just the begining, can you imagine where Android will go from here. No matter what Apple does Android has to many manufactures under its system to fall behind. The battel will continue but I am sorry to say that Android will stand on top.

Don't be sorry, it's Apples fault, they keep releasing marginal upgrades to previous devices. People have grown tired of the rehashes and the closed OS. One of the issues is At&t, for the longest time At&t was blaming their subpar network on the demand of the iphone. Well, the latest studied which showed Sprint and Verizon accounting for 63% of all data in 2009, put that to rest.

I don't know where you're getting those numbers, but 70% of all web traffic from smartphones comes from the iPhone. Not just AT&T's network, just the iPhone itself.

Granted... Apple is still very profitable, and will undoubtedly continue to be so.
Look at Nintendo. It was dead last for multiple generations of video games, yet still maintained profitability and made a comeback.
Apple fell behind, remained profitable and has made a comeback. It'll fall behind again, remain profitable and... who knows... One company, one set of hardware, one os, walled garden...
vs a lot of hardware manufacturers, a host of different OS versions, an open environment...
As long as Apple continues marginal upgrades, minor OS changes and holds onto fundamental core philosophies - it will always find itself walking into niche corners.
