Im not an apple fan boy. In fact I hate them. But, its not much to be proud of. Android and Blackberry are sold across all carriers while iPhone is only sold on one carrier. Everyone in the US can access a Blackberry or Android because at&t, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint all sell them. The fact that apple is right there in the race is amazing considering they cant sell to 3 carriers yet.
...
um...they "can't" sell to all 3 carriers. nooo...they "won't" sell to all 3 carriers.
...
...You're right... maybe if they sold the iPhone on all carriers they would be selling more units probably way more than RIM, but the agreement with AT&t, whose fault is that? That's where Apple comes to make the deal with other carriers and sell more units... maybe that's the smart thing about Microsoft' Windows Phone 7... sell it in all carriers... to sell more units. In general iPhone OS has been passed, maybe it was b/c people prefered a different OS like you and me, or b/c the exclusive agreement with AT&T (which would be Apples mistake... causing it not to sell more units)

Are these just first quarter numbers? If so, then this is somewhat meaningless. A new iPhone comes out once a year while new Android phones can come out at any time.
Anyone who wanted a 3Gs and was eligible probably got it last summer, or at least for Christmas. Anyone who doesn't want and iPhone or for whom AT&T isn't a viable provider will be looking for whatever's the hot device at their provider of choice and will do it when their contract is up.

@edzero
ya, but ANDROID hasnt even been out 2 years yet. to be in 2nd place to that crappy bb os is pretty remarkable and you know it buddy. iphone has had one helleva head start and android has passed it and is not gonna slow down soon. i predict android to be #1 by 2012.

Don't think it will happen soon...Blackberry is an Industry Standard their devices are stable and perfect for business users. Calendar, email, personal data managementm need I go on.
At the end of the day....Android and iPhones are toys that make calls...
Blackberry is for the grown, PROFESSIONAL and sexy...hmmm like me!
...
its a theme...not any realy functionality...I almost didnt bother to respond...ugh
...
I posted that to prove that even blackberry owners wish they had iPhones.
you may not be one of them but there is a growing majority of RIM users that wish they had the ease of use with the power that only the iPhone can offer.
...
Yeah no offense but Blackberry is only an industry standard if you're in an office that runs Microsoft Outlook 2003 on an old WinXP machine from last decade.
...
old WinXP machine from last decade? Really? You expect businesses.... Fortune 500 companies to run their workstations and servers on Vista? lol.... XP is still very heavily a standard in business. Until Win 7 has a strong foothold, WinXp will reign because anybody with an IQ over 60 knows you would never run workstations on Vista. I know businesses that still heavily rely on win 2003 server.... but that might be too "fragmented" since microsoft has had 10 OS's since windows 3.x with a gui and yet reigns supreme as the os leader of the world.
