That doesn't exactly impress me seeing as the iPhone has had 3 iterations, all on one network, whereas Android is on all the carriers in a few different iterations. When a single device with Android passes the iPhone, then I will think the world.

With all the media love for Apple this is a big deal. Open source will always win in the end. I have been trying to purchase an Incredible and the shipments are sold out.

it says a lot to the developers building the apps. It's an OS thing, not an individual phone thing.

Never said I was dry humping Steve Jobs. I would just expect Android to sell more since it's run on multiple handsets under multiple carriers. It has a wider market than the iPhone...

This wasn't really about which OS is better. This is just something I expected and isn't earth shattering news.

Baaahhhhh

I'm sure Steve would appreciate your refraining from such affectionate attachments to a limb of his body. 😳

Apple has been a synonomous name for many years. Android is very new. Android's impact into mainstream acceptance will not happen overnight. However, they are indeed gaining respect very quickly as a premier OS. This is proof that the more Android increases their selection while maintaining an open source practice, adding what consumers seek, it will be far more received as the popular choice such as Windows over Mac.

But I would almost argue that although Apple is a big name, Google is a pretty big name too. You don't just search for something, you "Google" it. And everyone pretty much knows that Android is Google's OS. I'm just still not impressed.

That being said, the one thing I don't want to happen is Android end up like Windows Mobile. There were so many different WM phones out there that there was not real unity. Different resolutions, different processors, different versions. I hope Android sets some kind of standard.

i think that wont happen.. they wanted to create an OS for everyone, thats why you can get an android phone from LG that is not really a smart phone, they want manufacturers to have a cheap choice for an OS that they dont have to develop themselves, because from what i gather bulk of what makes the price of the phone higher is the OS (ie, winmo,bb,iphone)so if u can get a free one without any hassles in patents or what not, the lower the price of the phone gets the more you can sell, that is one of the reason why android is attractive for manufacturers. and this i think is what we are missing here on this online forums, android is not for smartphones alone.

add to that, although android is practically same as winmo, their main difference ...

well the title is "Android Passes iPhone OS in U.S. Purchases" notice that Andorid is not a device, it's an OS, so in other words "Android [OS] Passes iPhone "OS" in U.S. Purchases"
Also the decision of sticking with one the device (the iPhone) and one carrier (AT&T) was apple's, and perhaps is causing it to sell less units. Android wanted to have its OS for all carriers and device manufactures, for that reason they sell more... it's all about making good decisions in business to sell more

I know what the title says very well. When you have an operating system running under multiple handsets and multiple carriers, it should be expected to sell more than an OS that has only run under three handsets under one carrier. That's not a huge achievement in my book, it's more to be expected.

God Damn, why can't people understand what you are simply saying, lol this is the funniest sh!t I've seen in a while.

Its simple math, of course they will sell more of the OS because the IS relatively more available then Apples scare apple OS which can only be found one device and under one carrier.

And just like you point out, I'm not saying who is better then the other but lets look at the simple math people.

Apple looks at things, like if we control our product, our product will be a better product because we have our best interest. Third party company's will not have your product at best interest but their revenue more so.

Think about dole, the fruit and veggie company.

Think if they were the farmers, the package'r, the d...

Its OS vs OS, and people are recognizing that ANDROID is better than iphone. The iphone is over hyped and I am so happy ANDROID is taking off like this. stevo has to be burning in his seat. the new iphone looks like crap. OS 4.0 is not going to be enough to compete with ANDROID.

What is better is a matter of opinion, which is subjective. Like I said above, the reason why Android sells more is because there are more opportunities for people to buy them since Android is under multiple handsets and carriers.

Agreed. Couple that fact with the common knowledge of a new iPhone coming out in the next 1-2 months and it would be an embarrassment if Android OS were to sell less than the iPhone OS.

What other smart phone do AT&T people go to other then the IPHONE? They have nothing else so why would you even pay for date on another device when you can have the IPHONE which is the best phone AT&T has?

Android has come on the market to sell its Operating system to phone makers and has done a good job at it. Why would they want to limit where they put there Operating system when they can put it on all the carriers?

Why does AT&T have a android phone now? AT&T is in it to make money and they will sell Android to make more money because they know that is where the $$$$ is for them now.
