It's in Vegas now too. Why the hell would they need an LTE network when most prepaid phones are garbage and don't have full html anway?

My guess is that they're making themselves as appealing as possible for a future sale of the company (and by future I mean several years on out). OR they're getting serious about becoming a national player.

LTE is where everything but Sprint is heading towards.

CDMA 1x/EVDO -> LTE
GSM/UMTS -> LTE

I suspect they'll sell an IP skype like service.
Over WiFi, Skype is ~36/year for unlimited calling. Its much cheaper than circuit switched.. means more profit. Also, since everything is headed LTE, cheaper global phones.

I can't speak about everyone or everywhere, but in Atlanta I know more people with Metro than with Sprint (no Nextel here, it's SouthernLINC.)

I'm lost...I didn't think I claimed to know every MetroPCS customer in the the metropolitan statistical area of Atlanta, or every customer of any area in particular. I was pointing out a pattern where I lived.

Just because something doesn't seem right to you, you shouldn't ASSume that the fact at hand is falsified.

The regional, pre-paid carrier has more than 7 million subscribers. By comparison, Sprint's Nextel arm of post-paid iDen subscribers has around 6.8 million.

I am not sure how they can compare Metro PCS to the Nextel arm of Sprint the Nextel devices were more specialized. The devices were orginally targeted to business with the Direct Connect not for the everyday user. I know very few people that need or even want the direct connect. and Metro and Cricket are just another CDMA provider with mediocre coverage at best at least that is way Cricket is here.

Key word in that quote is "here." Your current location is not 100% representative of the entire United States.
