The average customer WOULDN'T care if they actually did a rational evaluation and realized that they have no need for anything more than 3g (or maybe just EDGE).

But so many people either forget, or never bother to learn, what their phones already do. No matter what they already have, the average idiot sees a TV commercial advertising faster phones or whiter shirts, and they think it's some kind of revolution.

I don't even use 3g. I buy unbranded phones because I don't like carrier sabotage, and hardly any of those work with US 3g networks. I briefly had a Sony T717 for T-Mobile, and the 3g speed was nice for video downloads but made almost no difference for normal web browsing with Opera. I returned it because T-Mobile basically r...

You are right.
I don't use 3G either. It is the fool that walks around with the I-diot phone, or Smart-ass phone doing their best to look self important and either impress their friends(if they have any) or just like pushing touchscreens all day.
I have an older phone that can make and receive calls in areas where alot of the newer ones sacrifice RF for all the BS apps.
Where there is more than an absolute need for 3G or LTE there should be a market specifically targeted for those that would use it for what it is really intended for instead of making people drink the BS (hence the Clorox) the carriers push down their throats to make them think that they are going to have a "better" phone.

I know it's hard to imagine in the 1997 mindset that you are stuck in, but a lot of consumers use their phone for more than just talking.
