I'm currently with T-mobile, and is sad to see them just now talking about 4G. Remember, T-Mobil is just talking about 4G, and nothing is factually in the works. By the time T-Mobile get's 4G, everybody would have moved on to 6G. Its for the lack of internet quality that I'm leaving T-Mobile for Sprint-Wi-Max. The only thing that can save T-Mobile is if they go full bull into producing a 4G system nationwide before the end of this summer. If T-mobile were to do this accompanied by a slash in rates and plans their 1qt profits for next year will more than quadruple.

I always said that tmobile should have went ahead and skipped 3g. They should have went on to build their 4g network instead of wasting money and spectrum on 3g. They are about 6 behind. They could have been the first carrier to release 4g in the US.

Well, they better wave their magic wand for you! Seriously, by this summer? And you are actually praising Sprint's WiMax? That's available in 4 cities and is NOT going to be the 4G standard that the rest of the planet adopts? Why?

Yes, spend billions on a new network rollout, while they are busy expanding and updating their 3G network to nigh-4G speeds THIS YEAR, and slash rate plans and then they'll make a profit? You have no idea how business works.

Im sorry but WiMax is really not that fast I live in the Philly market and have tested HSPA+ AND WiMax and they are both on par with each other. So what do you make of that.

RockTripod, Sprints Wi-Max has expanded their coverage to a total of 32 major cities. I'm sorry that you haven't got a clue as to the jury being out on Sprints Wi-Max grid, and verdict is that Wi-Max is in and 3G is on its way out.

Sorry about the cities being off. It isn't around me, or any cities in my area. BTW, WiMax may be what Sprint chooses, but it is NOT going to be the standard. If it works for you, great, but its kinda silly and kinda exactly how Sprint does things. Your original comment was still way off base on cost, feasability, and purpose. Most consumers could care less about 4G. And the article itself is stupidly worded since it makes it sound as if T-Mo is begging for help. Guess what! Every carrier uses outside companies for network development and deployment. Re-word the article to say "T-Mo ENLISTS company to build 4G network for 2012" and all of a sudden everything is rosy. Sprint will have their WiMax network rolled out and that's great f...

The comparison of LTE Vs WiMax, is kind of irrelevant at this current time. Wimax has over 30 markets covered. LTE has 0. More and more people are being groomed for the 4G transition as it occurs. The word is out on Wimax. LTE may be the chosen standard, but this does not eliminate WiMax as a very formidable alternative. I am very excited for the arrival of both WiMax and the Evo. And the Evo does work off both 3G/4G.

I think the fact that the rest of the planet is going LTE means that WiMax may be doomed from the start. That's not to say it may enjoy a few years, but I would be surprised if it lasted longer. From recollection, I believe only a small handful of carriers worldwide chose WiMax.

Don't Forget. CDMA was chosen to be the world standard as well. Look how that turned out. LTE will be the world standard by 3GPP's footprint planning, however, Many other countries that don't have 4G yet, have committed to WiMax. What this all means is that if 70 percent of the World is LTE and the rest is WiMax, that still is a hefty market share that I would be willing to accept as plausible exisitence.

On another note: Sprint has made full mention to leaving the door open for LTE. They literally could almost switch overnight since LTE technology is integrated into their WiMax Infrastructure. Very smart move for Sprint in either case. First to market and able to switch at anytime.

OK genious, as far as LTE being a world wide standard, I guess you need to talk with Asia, Russia, Canada and South America. Because they're under the impression that they have committed to Wimax.
Oh and as far as LTE smoking Wimax, call me when you can get a TEST result of over 10mbps.

Tell me when you can get WiMax with anyone other than Sprint, even in the US, genious. Then you can compare data speeds. No matter if WiMax is superior, most carriers have already decided on LTE, so I still doubt it is going to last longterm.

And yet you still missed my point. Its akin to BetaMax. Might be superior, but its not going to win in the long run.

I have seen a 3G network beat WiMax in Philly. It was T-Mobile's HSPA+ network. It was at some event where Clearwire was promoting their WiMax and T-Mobile was promoting their HSPA+ netowrk. They ran head to head and not only did T-Mobile's network run faster but it was more consistant and never lost a conn. It was funny because after the Clearwire rep saw that, he left. lol 😲

Of course, he doesn't. He does not care if T-Mobile goes bankrupt tomorrow. Life goes on...
