except the thing that made the sidekick such a good deal is the plan it works with and these dont give a better deal, fail Verizon charging the same price for this as a blackberry or droid why would i buy this

Yup that was exactly my point weeks ago. This is gonna fail cause it's on Verizon. The market they're targeting is teeny boppers and everybody knows teeny boppers love pre-paid. Or rather their parents prefer them to use pre-paid.
The reason why the Sidekick was such a huge success is exactly what you said. T-Mo has options for basically everyone to get one. From bad credit to no credit to good credit. From post-paid to pre-paid to flexpay.

exactly. and yes i know that this type of phone requires unlimited data, but not many parents are going to give their teenagers a phone with $30/mo extra tacked on. unlimited texting plans? of course. smartphone data plans? no way. that and the fact that the feature set on these phones isn't needed for most users over the age of 18 (i.e. those of us who pay our own phone bill). the phones themselves aren't bad, but the data plan requirement is a huge fail. i'd be pleasantly surprised if these sell well 🙂
