No clear winner?

Last I checked, Verizon Wireless kicked AT&T's ass with their commercials while AT&T was viewed as pathetic by most with their attempts to cut down VZW the douche that is Luke Wilson.

first of all, I love Luke Wilson!

Second, yeah, you are right. Verizon seems to be the obvious winner in this battle.

😢 at&t fought back like a kid that had his pants pulled down in front of a whole school. 🤭 crying & throwing air punches. at&t dogged in the press and by their own cliental for network performance & Verizon just kept making light of that fact. 🤣

at&t might not have churned 20 mill but Verizon was a clear winner.

AT&T didn't dodge the press on anything. There's been announcements and all about the services being sub-par and the company pumping serious money into restoring the network. How is that dodging anything?

Verizon is like the playground bully and it's fanboys are the kids that stand behind it to throw the under-dogs back into the circle.

If AT&T wasn't such a threat, the commercials wouldn't exist, so obviously AT&T is doing something right.

Here's the difference though.. the Verizon commercials had humor backing them up, they weren't the "Now hold on a minute, I'm going to throw a whole bunch of iphone facts at you and say they are att facts"

Verizon made the commercials because of the Iphone, that's it. When I was a rep, you wouldn't believe how many people came in EVERY. FREAKING. DAY. mumbling about the Iphone, and asking why verizon didn't carry it. ATT activated more Iphones every quarter than they added total new subscribers, meaning that PHONE is the thing driving their numbers more than anything their network did.

If you look at Verizon's commercials, they're all basically saying "yes, you have a really cool phone... but where can you use it?"

The iphone i...

They are the same company, because of the merger. But there used to be ATT and Cingular as two competing companies.

Cingular was in a bad spot before the merger. That's one of the reasons they agreed to the iphone deal. For how successful the iphone is now, there was no reason for a company to know this, and APPLE wanted A LOT for the deal, a lot more than companies with proven track records when it came to devices.

They couldn't have worked the iphone deal on the merger, the contract would have been voided as soon as the company legally became AT&T. All the "Cingular"s would have to have already been listed as AT&T.

Cingular technically is the host company, but stock and everything is still under AT&T brand legally. So that doesn't make sense, Apple could have walked out on the contract without any issues if that were the case.

No offense Menno... but you need to get your facts straight.

AT&T Wireless (1994 - 2004) was it's own separate entity. Yes it was bought out by AT&T (Ma Bell, the one notorious in the 80's) and in 2000 AT&T Wirless became it's own separate entity even from Ma Bell due to consolidation.

Cingular, which was a joint venture between SBC and Bell South aquired AT&T Wireless in 2004.

SBC purchased AT&T (the original Ma Bell) as well as Bell South in 2006 and technically all the above companies were now owned by SBC.

SBC knew more people/consumers would "want" to associate themselves with AT&T being a trusted and established name. Hence the company transitioned in the New AT&T and dropped their former names...

Yes the stock is unde...

Tech geeks are not the only ones hearing about ATT's network problems. More and more Consumers are noticing/hearing of these issues and this has undoubtedly put ATT in a position to either put up or shut up.

The current events have not been working in ATT's favor. I commend ATT for pulling the plug on the ridiculous 3G coverage network war against VZW. This would only further throw themselves under the bus. I don't care much about ATT, but I do feel their ads on being able to talk and surf at the same time, are more compelling. It is something VZW can't do................Until the arrival of LTE.

It's true they are doing something right....being partnered with Apple's IPhone, Immagine what will happen this fall if it does come to Verizon, I too have had many ATT folks in the store, none of whom say anything nice about ATT, and the only tout I do hear is how cool the IPhone is.

With reguards to churn, we'll see how ATTs procrastination with 4G effects churn. I'm sure Sprint will market the HTC Evo 4G, and likely June of next year Vzn will have their first 4G smartphone. So 2011 will be a very, very interesting year.

There is no procrastination with 4G. Why roll out with a whole new G while LTE is successfully being developed? That's like buying a new computer when you know that in a few months more, huge breakthroughs will revolutionize the computer industry.

By the time stuff hits in 2011, LTE will prob. be marketable by end of 2012 or beginning of 2013, so why spend the money on 4G vs skipping straight to LTE a few months down the road?

I like how everybody assumes Sprint and Verizon are so "cool" cause they are going to 4G... LoL.

THEY DON"T HAVE A CHOICE!!!

Their networks cost too much to maintain and their pretty much tapped out on advancing the network!

If Verizon and Sprint integrate their current 3G network into their respective 4G, that means the slowest speeds available in 3 years will be 124 - 168 kbps (1xRTT)... on a 4G PHONE!!! Meanwhile, by continuing the evolution of their current 3G UMTS networks, AT&T and T-Mobile will offer the slowest speeds of 3.6 - 7.2 Mbps... and 3 years is a time table build out for 3.6 overlay of EDGE.

There is plenty of development left for EVDO. Verizon and Sprint are choosing not to go with it because eventually everyone will be 4g, so why waste money on a tech that they are going to replace anyway because Qualcomm, the company that develops CDMA threw their weight behind LTE (for patents) instead of UMB (the 4g tech developing from CDMA)

And verizon is using their 1xrtt network for VOICE, NOT for data. Verizon will have their entire native network covered with 4g data in a couple of years according to thier roadmap. So the slowest 4g phone will be stuck with (if in a roaming area) will be EVDO RevA which is 3.1

What of ATT? They'll have their current 3g network all 4g.. and the rest? they'll be stuck on edge, or at best 3.6...

F**k Verizon for being arrogant. They treat their customers like the battered housewife taking solace in knowing that she doesn't have the strength to leave. Beats the crap out of her, treats her like $hit and tells her she won't find anything better out there and to bow down to the best. Then the next day, comes home from work with chocolate candy and flowers.

F**k AT&T too! They're like, "Well we got the iPhone bitch, what else do you want?!!"

They're just two big bullies duking it out in the playground for control of the school. Neither is better than the other and as far as I'm concerned, they can both go to hell. I'll stick with #3

lol you guys are killing me. Maybe I was being a bit over-dramatic there.

I don't work in the industry but I just hate when people don't educate themselves on the options that are out there. Like simply buying an iPhone just because it's "trendy" you know. You should buy a phone along with a carrier that works for you.

That's hilarious, and I have to say I am SO glad AT&T is dumping this ad campaign. I didn't care for Luke Wilson before and now I can't stand the sight of him, he really makes me sick with his sorry dough eyes and stupid looks on his face. We all know he was only on those commercials because he's washed up and Owen quit paying his rent for him. Verizon is the best network for call quality, period. AT&T doesn't even cover 97% of the nation or whatever they were claiming. And as far as the cities AT&T has coverage in, come on! I can name a major city in every U.S. state as well Luke Wilson, good for you jackass!

The reason no side really won is b/c neither ad campaign translated into more sales at the expense of the other. ATT still gained the most and lowered their churn while VZ also gained a lot of subscribers and retained their industry leading churn rate. They just spent a lot of money and neither gained a competitive edge when you look in terms of sales and revenue. As for the ads themselves, VZ definitely won. They were much more creative and more entertaining. The Land of Unwanted Toys was completely hilarious 🤣
