Really?
I don't see any reason to do this. The phone OS market needs to get smaller, not bigger. I mean, do we need Win Mob 7, Android, Apple OS, Symbian, Meego, WebOS, Bada, and now this? It's just too diluted.
I'm all for just a nice 4 contender ring personally.

I agree, but it is nice that frinkin Microsoft doesn't rule the mobile OS world like they do the desktop OS world, that's for sure!!!

if they made their mobile Os's more like Winphon7 and Courier it might not be a bad thing.
Say what you want about MS, but they have some truly amazing ideas when it comes to digital devices.

I think MS has lots of amazing ideas when it comes to devices. I think their execution is always dismal and neutered as if it got passed through a bunch of focus groups.
{case in point the infamous Longhorn video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9ifQvQCO7Y }

I'm not being anti Mcsft, I'm just saying that I'm glad that the mobile world is far, far more diverse than desktop world, that's all.

Here's what it'll come down to:
iPhone OS
Android
WinMob7 (I don't see it getting widespread adoption though, but judgement comes later) .
RIM (mostly a legacy OS at this point.)
The problem is Android is near a total train wreck development wise. As a platform it's too fragmented so developers develop for specific devices. But its big problem is that it punishes manufacturers looking to distinguish their devices. Not good.
WM7 honestly looks like too little too late. And although it'll solve the fragmentation issues Android is facing, it won't allow for much differentiation between devices. I don't understand how they expect it to take off- sure it's a massive improvement and looks snazzy, but is that really enough?

In my dream world, HTC puts WebOS on Evo 4G-like hardware, and I'm shooting 100-300mbs WiMAX2 beams of destruction to my laptop wherever I go. Oh while I'm at it there are chocolate milk drinking fountains on every corner.
