How iPhone multitasking is different

Until now, Apple has cached applciations on exit. This remains, but now only select API's are instructed to run when an application is off screen.

This is different than Android or WebOS- both idle background applications, consuming CPU resources.

I am reading the live blog right now, and it all looks really nice, problem is, how are they going to keep it simple and easy to use????

You obviously now nothing about CPU usage, even when the iphone app is off screen, it still uses resources just to keep it open..... I love how you just open your mouth and spew incorrect information. And i cant wait till this iphone comes out, cause i will reactivate my old palm pre and have 10 apps open and it wont lag, i want to see the iphone do that.

Okay, but who in the real world does that or have a need to do that? Considering the iPhone's processor is much more powerful than the Pre's, I really fail to see the argument here.

The argument was that blue coyote said that the iphone can multitask with out using any resources that slow down the phone, which is a lie.

iPhone, Pre, & I believe Droid all have the same processor.

I was mistaken about the Palm Pre's processor. It is equivalent to the iPhone 3GS but the Droid is a little slower but not by much.

Actually the processor is basically the same. WebOS is very resource intensive (not including multitasking in the picture)

Of course it uses resources to keep the app open, but only those pertaining to the background processes specified by the iPhone OS . Non-essential processes are cached. Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

And btw, speaking of the Palm Pre (too bad for you I own and develop for one and I know damn well what its weaknesses are) , try playing music and browsing the web and skipping through tracks. How's that 3-4 second lag working out? 🤣

Try running Youtube and respond to a text and go back to your video without it closing on your iphone.

Are you really serious? 4 Second lag while switching tracks is a problem?? I sometimes got that on my iPod switching tracks, and definitely get it on the iPhone! Try the 13 second lag between the time I close Pandora and the music stops playing on my iPhone... NEVER had that with WebOS

I've had some serious lags on my iPhone 3G once every blue moon, but uh WebOS's music player frequently bogs down like a fat person at a buffet. I'm talking 3-4 second track advances as the norm, and multiple advances take upwards of 15 seconds. There's no such lag on the iPhone (let alone the 3GS)- not even close.

This sounds a lot like what Microsoft was planning, no?
