No doubt - welcome news, but they should have done 1 more thing...
That infernal 2yr contract.
I learned recently that Sprint only has 2-yr contract or longer options - no "no contract/bring your own hardware, and apparently not even a 1yr contract.
So, while this 30-day policy might induce some to try Sprint, it won't work for me. I need the freedom/flexibility to move to the BEST HARDWARE/TECHNOLOGY/SIGNAL combination I can find, and I am happy and willing to buy my own hardware on the open market to have the freedom to move when necessary.

Perhaps for 4G or 3G connection cards there isn't a plan without a 2 year SA. However, as price plans are concerned, Sprint does have a Month-to-Month plan that doesn't require a contract. So, if you started service with your own equipment on that price plan then you wouldn't have a contract. You could easily change your price plan later without extending your contract since there is no contract extension on price plan changes.

I specifically wanted/needed the faster 4G datacard. Not voice service (although what a hook outstanding 4G aircard would be to bring over all of my voice plans also).
The synergies and incrememtal business opps Sprint miss w/ having/being first out w/ 4G are intriguing to me.

Right and if you don't or can't get an old Sprint phone to start up with then yeah it wouldn't work. Now if you did have one, you could start on the month-to-month with no contract then call up and swap to a 4G connection card and it wouldn't extend your contract.
