I was with AT&T for about six years and I have had all three iphones and every one of them had far less signal than any other phone on the AT&T network and call quality was a joke. I live in Alabama and AT&T does not have 3G were I live, so I finally left them a few weeks ago for Verizon and the HTC Droid, I could not be any more pleased. Great call quality and fast 3G speeds, I should have made the move years ago and I would not have another crappy iphone any network. Well I might change my mind but it would have to make some really BIG improvements.

Most people seem to be calling all Android handsets "Droids" too.

kinda like how all tissues are kleenex's, all cotton swabs are "Qtips" etc. Verizon's advertising for the Droid as a name was very effective.

I've caught a couple ATT reps refer to the N1 and the Backflip (lol) as a droid

I think Droid sounds cool, and I love how when I get a msg my phone says in a compter voice Droid!

But it doesn't make sense to me that Vzn has to license the word "Droid" from Lucas, one is a phone, the other is a robot in Star Wars. Their not related to each other @ all.

I always just call it the Eris. I think the popularity of the name Droid comes because it's a bit owning a car called a Jaguar.

"What do you drive?"

"I have a Jaaaaag!"

The rich bad boy's car, hehe.

Those guys in prison for tax dodging, they all have Jaaaaags.

The Droooid is kind of like that.

It's Vzn that calls it the Droid not HTC & Motorola. Motorola calls it the Milestone, and HTC calls the Eris the HTC Hero.
Vzn is the one that made up the names Droid and Droid Eris.

The Hero is Sprint's version of the Eris. Look at the respective Web sites, though. You're completely wrong about HTC and Motorola not referring to their own respective phones as Droids.

They're referring to the Verizon branded ones as Droids. Just like Blackberry refers to the Curve2 for verizon just by it's numbers. it limits customer confusion.

To clarify: Verizon is the one that is licensing the term "Droid" for both the motorola Droid and the HTC Droid eris.
