New iPhone By Summer, Verizon iPhone By Fall
iphone for verizon???
While Google has it's problems, Apple has shaking in their boots at the amount of market share Android is gobbling up.
Unless you consider the loss of talk + data a selling point, this is simply Apple reacting to lost mind-share.
talk about beating a dead horse, everyone who wanted the Droid would of already had one. If you notice Apple pays for its own commercials and AT&T has commercials about its other products. I think Verizon will hype the hell out of a CDMA iPhone so they can steal a boatload of AT&T customers that aren't happy with AT&T in major cities.
-----------------------------------------
I am predicting (IMO) that Verizon will get the iPhone. Verizon will be unprepared for the shear amount of data usage new iPhone users are going to be requesting of the CDMA carriers network and all of the sudden AT&T won't look so bad any more. Verizon's bac...

and a good chunk of those 20million would come from att iphone users, so it's really false churn.
I'm not denying that the iphone will sell well, and that marketing will push it. but I don't think it will be the "we have the IPHONE (and a couple other ok phones)" like it is for ATT right now. The droid marketing push is the closest VZW's gotten to that, and they still push other phones.
Because by December if it's upgraded Droid vs upgraded iPhone, with the same features on both sides? Droid (or whatever the new phone is called) will still be better, IMO.
6-9 months from now tho, your right... Apple could actually do something to get that top spot back... otherwise, it'll just be the same ignorant sheep following the masses on their quest to Think Differently.
I'm personally hoping your right, about all of it. It's gonna be one of the few fun things to watch for sure.
Is this because Verizon tricked you into buying a "flagship phone" that was made obsolete on its own platform within 40 days of being released? 🤣
Application Quality~ Have you used the apps on the app store? 300 fart apps isn't something to be proud of. Droid and Palm have comparable app stores, with fully functional apps comparable to the iPhone store.
Better web browser? Subjective to say the least... I can visit the same websites on a Droid phone, with the same look and feel.
On-Screen Keyboard? Droid, Moment, etc... all have very comparable screens, keyboards PLUS the option of a *REAL* keyboard.
User interface? Best? Seriously? It's a simplified interface that my grandma can use, for sure... but also removes *ALOT* of customization and functionality.
Memory Management~ if yo...

1) Really? No offense but if you think Palm has a comparable App store you're delusional- I own AND develop for a Pre and it's downright lonely in there. Same with Android- try to find a decent IM or Twitter client for Android. They're all crap.
2) No it's not subjective. Android's browser is trash. Its javascript performance is downright impotent next to the iPhone's. Palm's is a little better but even my Pre runs into sites it can't manage (CNN.com for that matter.)
3) The on-screen keyboard on Android is near useless, and can't register simultaneous presses. (also hurting is the dumb idea to put silkscreened buttons below it.) Not to start on the inferior keyboard accuracy, but...

Palms (and other) app stores don't have as many apps, for sure. BUT all of the 'core' apps are there. I have a droid and a pre at work that I play with, and have no issues with either.
I've also not had issues surfing on either phone. Maybe I'll try a more diverse set of web pages to see... but I've been happy with both - and more than enthusiastic to sell either.
Copy/Paste is only a patch away. That's what iPhone users cried for the 2 years+ it took apple to implement that "easy" feature. *rolls eye*
If I'm surfing, while listening to internet radio I do so at the risk of stuttering. The same applies to if I choose to use Torrent while playing Counter Strike. But at le...

"lazy developers."
3. Accuracy is fine. Auto correct works wonders for fast typing. True multi-touch keyboard your thing? Get Smart Keyboard Pro. Full multi touch support, and you can even skin it to look like your iphone keyboard.

I'm running Windows Mobile 6.5! DUN DUN DUN
Multitasking? Yes.
Copy-Pate? Yes.
MMS? Yes.
aGPS? Yes!
File Management? Very Yes!
Install apps on your Removable Memory Card? YES!
Download and/or Install whatever the heck you want? Very Yes!
Customize the OS to your liking? You better believe it!
The ability to create Office Documents on the phone without having to buy Documents to Go? Most excellently!
And much more that I haven't listed. Sure, WM has its flaws, but the fact that it can do just about anything, long as you have an app for it, is right by my book.
If I replace it with a different phone, it will be a toss between ...

Seriously, iPhone's next commercial should center around bluecoyote trying to use anything that isn't an iPhone, screaming, "WHY CAN'T I COPY AND PASTE?!" Angels then descend from above with an iPhone on a pillow. 🙄

So in your opinion, someone who purchases an iPhone because of something like application quality, faster web browser, better web browser, better on-screen keyboard, multitouch, better user interface, better memory management, better media player, consistent OS improvements, blockquote>
What are you talking about, i can name a phone that nest all of that except for applications. Palm Pre, way faster than iphone, Faster browser, Better web browser (flash support) same keyboard and a physical one. What media management, you cant remove your media. Not to mention the old iphone cant do what the new ones can. Also it took 3 years to get copy and paste and picturemail and video recording. Yes most iphone us

It can be a deal breaker for some people, but what do you think the average consumer will notice first:
1) that they can't listen to Pandora while browsing facebook and Jimmy with his android/blackberry/WINMOclassic can.
2) That sometime last tuesday they had to wait until they hung up with their mother to go find the location of the gas station.
Seriously, "talk and surf" at the same time wasn't even MENTIONED until Verizon started with their 3g coverage campaign. if it was that ground breaking of a feature, ATT (and tmo) would advertise the crap out of it as soon as they launched their 3g networks.
I prefer to wait until I'm done, and then share surfing experiences on the beach over a weenie roast. Much, much easier.
Have you ever had someone send you an email on the phone and then ask if you got it? Or sent you a PDF proof and asked you what you think over the phone while you're away from your desk? I have.
Ever been on the phone with someone and sent them a picture ("Is this the right one to buy?") I have.
Ever been on the phone and had someone send you directions? I have.
Not even possible on Verizon's network. AT&T might not've mentioned it until Verizon started their 3G wars (Verizon didn't seem to mention their 3G coverage until they lost a lot of smartphone subscribers)
It's totally useful. And if I want to listen to music while browsing facebook I uh... oh right, have an iPod right ther...

3. Nope. Never had a reason to. See, how it works is I get a call to pick up something, then I go to the place and either call them up to confirm or send them the picture to confirm
4. It's not possible on ATT's network either. Here's the rub, I don't live in a city. I don't live in the country either, but I'm in an area that ATT do...

You might've been better off and just not replied. 🤣
1. no, I have an ebook reader on my phone. and as I said, 90% of the time I'm on hold I'm somewhere with other distractions. I try not to call customer service when I'm sitting in a park. think of the last 5 times you were on hold. For me it was:

How are you handling android Jay? Any questions? comments?
I hit the home button, or the back button, and it launches an app! I gave up on the lock pattern b/c the touchscreen was misreading my pattern entries, so I use the slide lock instead.
These touchscreen misreads are really frustrating! And this guy I spoke with @ a Vzn store told me there isn't any calibration option with Android which is really strange.
Did you have a tech look at it and confirm it.. it shouldn't do that. I would have them look. if it is an issue with the phone, you should be able to get a new one shipped from amazon
I recall you saying that the only thing the 2.1 update will effect is shortcuts on my homescreen , but what about all the apps I've downloaded thus far? I certainly hope I don't have to re-d/l a bunch of stuff!
Live wallpapers will be cool!
covers can effect sensitivity because it changes the angle you hit those bottom buttons at.
Oh yeah, speaking of Copy+Paste- the iPhone's actually good at it. Droid isn't.
Multi-tasking beyond the OS supplied stuff (Granted, this is done by pretty much everyone but Apple...)
Ability to get apps WITHOUT having to get parents permission (Aka App store approval process).
Plus other stuff... that may not be "innovations" per-se... But other than fragmentation (Android 1.0, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, 2.1... ) Android has a solid lineup of options, carriers and choices beyond "newest, older, oldest". They have a very valid option to what was the top dog. Palm does as well...
Besides... other than creating a good experience 3 years ago, and app store 2 years ago and cut/paste last year... what "innovat...

As proof- every single Android "answer" to a problem with the iPhone's platform is a problem in and of itself.
Android allows 3rd party apps to run in the background, but application performance and battery life noticeably decreases. They allow 3rd party apps to manage multiple apps- many of which interfere with vital OS functions. Oops.
They offer 4 times the pixel count of the iPhone's screen... only to display the same information density but requiring the processor to work 4 times as hard...

Now the competition has caught up, and in various ways (depending on platform) surpassed the iPhone.
I'll buy the best product. Sometimes even if I dislike the company that sells it.
Other companies have better offers, in my not so humble opinion.
" Steve Jobs' dictation and control to become the most powerful person in the world, is only interested in building revenue by creating a cult of followers. "
The platform I'm most invested in isn't the iPhone- it's the Palm Pre. But at the same time I'm not dumb enough to buy into a lot of the crap the iPhone's detractors have claimed. I'm rather miffed that it's the ONLY viable mobile development platform- Android is still in "beta" until they actually come up with a decent SDK, and Palm doesn't have the revenue to compete.
But rather than dismiss Apple's actions as simply monopolistic or solely profit driven, you need to understand the smartphone landscape. Apple is addressi...

What kills me is that if you look at the Nexus one
the screen resolution is a meager 653 x 392. Even though the resolution is higher it still has lower quality than the iPhone- look at side by sides of the devices both inside AND outside. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2010/03/s ecrets-of-the-nexus-ones-screen-science-color -and-hacks.ars/

I'm not saying Apple makes a bad phone *BUT* I dislike Apple as a company and their policies almost unanimously.
I don't buy Sony for the same reasons. They make good quality products. But they have done stuff, as a company, that I disagree with. They have lost my money - as long as their is competitor with a reasonable item. TV, Console, etc etc.
The only reason I got the iPhone was... because there was nothing close to it. Nothing. A few decent WinMo phones were okay, but nothing even came close.
This year is different. While it can be argued that Apple is better than this, that or the other - the package as a whole is, even if be...

5. For that matter, allowing apps to completely replace core parts of the OS so that you can further customize the device to your specifications.

7. Already done (Palm gets the credit here) though theirs was not mandatory, their refund policy allowed it.
8. RIM did it before, only without the massive privacy violations.
9. If it's fragmented than it's a moot point. You advertise Android a single platform because it still isn't. And that's not even an Android thing- WinMo stunk at it long before Android.
I used to be able to add a calendar event on my phone and have it automatically sync with my computer, my girlfriends phone and anyone else who was linked to my calendar. I could update from my computer, my phone, my girl could add events and it all just synced.
Also, the online storage of contacts was nice.
Is there an app that does that on iPhone?
because I want that app!!!!
4. You have no idea what you're talking about with this one. Please read up on Google talk and even better: Look up reviews by Iphone users switching to android that mention it. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM lists it as one of their favorite features.

As one of the few members of phone scoop with an IQ and credit score in the triple digits it's my job to set the record straight on crap.
I defend good products and bash crappy products. It's as simple as that.
Oh, and Credit Score goes from 350-850 (FICO), 330-830 (Experian), 501-990 (Vantagescore), which would make everyone's score above three digits, no?
And average IQ is 100 (three digits)so statistically, you're hardly the only one with a three digit IQ either.
I happen to own an Nexus One, and I will say this, the day VZW starts selling iPhones, you will walk into one of their stores with their sales force in goofy looking polo shirts with Apple and VZW logo's on them, there will be posters and internal iPhone kiosks in the store, if you wish an android or whatever device you will have to walk past it. And I'm not even going to talk about the barrage of tv, web and other media ads starting weeks or months prior.
This is reality. Has nothing to do with what you or I like. VZW will sell at least 20 million iPhones. I even predict they will come close to or out selling first weeks sales of what AT&T has done.
The undeniable stability and quality of Apple's product line is widely known and generally never questioned. But what market share of the world favors the alternative? Most of my colleagues as well as other people in this world, DO NOT hate Apple's products, but rather Apple itself. Steve Jobs' dictation and control to become the most powerful person in the world, is only interested in building revenue by creating a cult of followers. Why else would they purposely lock down their devices only to open a few more new items with every additional issue? Smart? Yes definitely.
But here's the problem. Apple has successfully built an iphone craze. Locked into one carrier, has kept the interest em...

Mac is not this evil cult that people make it seem to be. Lets not all forget all company's are out to make money. Bill Gates was doing the same thing with Microsoft, locking it down and monopolizing software. Google is flooding the market and buying up to eliminate competition.
So I say at the end of the day, just get what ever you want, but remember that none of these company's will be free and they all want money. To get the most money from a person is to be nice to that person so they will spend all their money continuously with you rather then screw them out of a large or medium size one time payment.
Sorry for the ramble.
Their upgrade path mimics that of a feature phone line (like the EnV's) more than smartphones, where every new release is an undeniable upgrade from the one the previous year.
And apple's marketshare is growing slowly, but nowhere near what it would need to overtake the other players

What the hell are you talking about? The Moto Droid came out 5 and a half months ago. Of course newer phones are going to be better overtime like the HD2. But in my opinion the Droid hold its own.
